REPUBLICAN NETWORK FOR UNITY (RNU) SPOKESPERSON, MARTIN ÓG MEEHAN has accused the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools (CCMS) of forcing its political agenda onto schoolchildren by inviting the rebranded RUC into schools in the Six Counties.
Responding to the CCMS's announcement that school students will be lectured by the British Police, Mr. Meehan said; 'A school should be a safe sanctury for children, surrounded by people they trust. It should always be a neutral learning environment where a child can develop his or her potential, free from all political influence'.
In his announcement, 'the CCMS Chief Jim Clarke admitted that the forthcoming visits would be 'a future-focussed initiative'. Parents do not want schools and Teachers used as recruitment sergeants for a political Police force. The RUC/PSNI have continued to abuse young people and children throughout the North, with thousands stopped, detained, seached and criminalised. Hundreds of lethal plastic bullets have injured scores of young people.Children have witnessed violence inflicted by the RUC/PSNI, and have also been subjected to being searched on the side of the road'.
Meehan added;'RNU do not view any mutual benefits for welcoming the unreformed RUC into our schools because the reality for Catholic/Nationalist and Republican communities is that Political Policing has not gone away'.
