The SAOL project is based in the North Inner City of Dublin and is a community based rehabilitation and education project for women in treatment for drug addiction. Residential facilities for drug addicted people who are either detoxing, stabilising or in need of a short term safe space to contemplate and plan their future are few and far between in Ireland. Indeed there is NOWHERE that provides a place where women can go and bring their children for a respite from the every day stresses of drug addiction.
We were, therefore, very pleased recently when the National Training and Development Institute in Longford offered us the use of a small house on the grounds of their facility in Coolamber, Co. Longford. The house is ideally situated close to the main house of Coolamber and has the potential to be developed into a safe, warm environment with play areas for children. However the house is in a very bad state of repair and needs extensive work to make it habitable. The benefit to us of having the use of this respite place is that we can connect with the main facility in Coolamber which provides a residential year long education and training programme for individuals who are drug free.
In order to carry out the necessary renovations to the house we need to raise capital – and this is where you come in.
