Diary Marker - 1913-2003 90th Anniversary of Dublin Lock Out
August 2003 is the 90th anniversary of the 1913 Dublin Lock Out when twenty thousand workers were either on strike or locked out of their employment.
In memory of Big Jim Larkin and those who lost their lives in the cause of labour during the lock out, SIPTU has joined with local community groups and the Dublin Council of Trade Unions to stage a re-enactment of the baton charge which took place in Lower Abbey Street and Beresford Place on August 30, 1913.
The event will take place on Sunday, August 31, at 2.00pm. Participants are being asked to assemble at 1.00pm, at the old fire station in Buckingham Street, from where they will proceed to O'Connell Street, via Liberty Hall.
Everyone is welcome to participate in the event – not just union members!
