Background: Adults returning to second chance education were stunned recently with the removal of their child care allowance. The decision appears to have been made overnight to scrap the allowance by the Department of Education with no warning to the people availing of the payment. Already Colaiste Ide (the CDVEC school providing adult education full time courses in Finglas) has had students dropping out as they cannot afford to pay for child care.
This cut is a direct attack on the people that can least afford it. The majority of students are lone parents or unemployed and they will not be able to meet the expense of child care charges.
The protest is assembling at 11.00am outside Colaiste Ide tomorrow (Monday 15th) and intends to march to the local Fianna Fail office of Pat Carey TD. Everybody is welcome to support this protest and many of the students affected are bringing their children from crèches in the area.

Everyone is finding childcare ridiculously expensive. The question is do we want to pay more tax to fund it?
