If there were any doubts about whether “actual war” is still being waged by the US/UK, recent events must surely have dissolved them. The so-called "War on Terror" has made the world a very dangerous place for all of us. In Iraq, the upsurge of attacks against the US/UK coalition has led to "Operation Iron Hammer", whereby US forces have resumed bombing from helicopters and the notorious AC-130 gunships.
But as the demonstrations in Britain showed, opposition is once again on the rise. Bush and his cabal are now under severe pressure in the US to pull out of Iraq.
In Ireland, we can play our part. Refuelling by the US military at Shannon Airport must be brought to an end, and can be if the opponents of Irish complicity in this war rebuild the anti-war movement in this country. The Shannon Blockade is an important step in this process, and we would urge all anti-war activists to be in Shannon on Saturday 6th December.
The blockade is intended to be a peaceful act of mass civil disobedience. The objective is to effectively shut the airport or disrupt normal operations for the duration of the protest. A big attendance is crucial if we are to succeed. Please be there.
