Invitation to speak at World Social Forum in India - passport returned for duration of trip - upcoming AlJazeera documentary
I have recently been invited by an international women's justice group to India to participate in the "World Court on War as Crime". Specifically, I have been requested to speak as one of the expert witnesses who will bring testimony of resistance to US war crimes. This is happening in Mumbai (Bombay) at the World Social Forum from the 18th Jan 2004.
For the purposes of this journey my barrister appeared in Limerick Circuit Court before Judge Moran (my trial judge) on 19 December to make application for the return of my passport. After some discussion and no objection from the State this was granted from 10th Jan to 25th.
I am greatly honoured to be invited to this Court as a prosecution witness, so to speak, and to represent Ireland at that forum. It makes a nice change from being the accused, which is what the Irish State has made me. As funds for the whole project are very limited I am trying to contact peace groups or others in Ireland who might be willing to promote this venture by sponsorship of my journey. If anybody has any suggestions please contact me at ... Newpal@eircom.net ...
Also, AlJazeera television has finally finished their documentary film of the Insider Story the siege of the Church of the Nativity. They made a great effort to get talking to everyone involved, and sent a team over from their London office to interview me in Dublin. It should be very interesting, and I look forward to seeing it broadcast on Thurs. January 1st 2004. (In Arabic, with subtitles, hopefully!)
This will be a great experience, I feel, and I will report back during and after the whole thing.
Wish me Luck, Mary Kelly

Good Luck Mary. Hope you recieved the info I sent you re the trial in the USA where activists were found not guilty of weapons inspections trespass, after looking for DU here in Minnesota. Like I told you and sent you. The trial transcripts were too costly, about $2000 but I sent you the case # and how we linked the US Constitution, Minnesota Constitution with their both declared upholding of all treaties declared by the US, to the "Claim of Right" inheirant to the Constitution as well as recognizing the Geneva Convention and the Nuremberg Principles. Apparently I have been told that you just need to cite the case number for your use in your case. Perhaps we could even arrange for myself to appear in court as a witness to said presidence. It has been far too long since I have been in Ireland. You have my # or just email me.
PS To all you special branch boys reading this.. hello boys.. Wish my Da well will ya......
Great to hear from you an delighted you are doing this. Keep the light burning.
What is Mary's retrial date in Kilrush?
Is likely from mid-feb onward, not yet fixed, will be posted as news item / call for organised support immediately on confirmation
Have fun at the pretend court but remeber that playtime won't last forever and you will have to come back to reality and the reality is that you have broken the law in Ireland.
No "let's pretend" court can save you from that.
There is a higher court, Desmond, in which, obviously, you are not a Senior Counsel.
But from which people like you might learn a great deal
Justin please outline exactly which court you are talking about. I have always wondered, you guys always use this defence or something like it when you try to defend this ladies and others actions. To us they broke the law fair and square, to you guys she was allowed to break the law under the Nuremberg Principles. But either way, which court do you speak of??? Just like to know so I can look it up and maybe change my mind. However, I must also ask, what are your feelings towards other Irish laws, what do you do when a law comes along asking you to pay something as mundane as the bin tax and you don't have another law to hide behind and plead ignorance??
Either way, I am looking forward to her new trial maybe this time we can get a verdict that is not a hung jury, or one that is at least a bit more definite. Im hoping for Guilty as sin, but I suppose Ill just have to wait and see.
To Justin and all his egotistical friends it's perfectly alright for them to go around infringing on the rights of their fellow citizens.
See, they're on a higher moral level than us so they are free to ignore the laws of this country when it pleases them (they think).
They also think our decent hardworking courageous Gardai are "thugs".
These would be the same "decent hardworking courageous Gardai" who failed to mount a proper investigation of the Dublin and Monaghan Bombings, would they?
These would be the same "decent hardworking courageous Gardai" who are "free to ignore the laws of this country" when it pleases THEM, and that it's "perfectly alright" for THEM to "go around infringing on the rights of their fellow citizens", would they?
These would be the same "decent hardworking courageous Gardai" who formed the 'Heavy Gang' in the mid-seventies, would they?
These would be the "decent hardworking courageous Gardai" who beat up peaceful demonstrators on the streets of Dublin, would they?
These would be the same "decent hardworking courageous Gardai" who were recruited by the British Intellegence services, would they?
And don't give us the old chestnut about those ones being "a few bad apples in the barrel". We don't believe it.
