26th of December an earthquake hit the city of Bam in Iran. 40,000 people have died and many many more are in desperate need of help.
here in Ireland we have organised the FILLAWELLY WANDER. a sponsored walk around the 25 miles of Dublin Bay on Saturday 31st January and Sunday 1st February 2004.
we hope as many people as possible will get involved
will you?
all money goes into Trócaire emergency Bam appeal. every cent will go directly to Bam
dressing up or having as much fun as possible during the wander is optional but strongly encouraged so as to make the event as fun, enjoyable and memorable as possible. Collectors will have wellies that they are trying to fill full of cash during the walk
to get involved
email or ring Trócaire and ask for a sponsorship card, fill it out and come and do the walk in 2 weekends time

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7the picture above is of the first FILLAWELLY that we made at Etaoins going away party in mullanahone, county tip. the party was great and we got some cash, the can of dutch gold beer was auctioned at 8.28 on the sunday morning, we got €3.85 for it.
An abomination! Selling alcohol for the relief of Bam. May Allah in his infinite wisdom, compassion and mercy smite you down.
dident think of it like that
im not a muslim, i was in bam 4 and a half years ago.
but on the drink note- i was offered much raki (asian sort of putcheen) in the town before bam, yazd
im just part of a group doing what we can to get cash to people who need it. simple
i drink, i auctioned a can of beer, irish people gave money- thats positive
we hope that FILLAWELLY will be a success, and loads of money gets out there. with that less people die, more survive
inshallah

Ok, so this may well be worthy of support, but has anyone checked out this 'Wellyman' website? It's got links on there to Countryside Ireland- pro-hunt lobby group- as well as the National Association of Regional Game Councils and BASC in Britain.
Can't help thinking that this is a crude attempt by hunt scum to present themselves as caring individuals in an attempt to win over support from the wider public for their more nefarious activities.
fair play for checking out those details if they are there
wellie man is sending us up wellies to collect the cash in
i got his flyer from my uncles in lahinch, county clare
it is not a front for him- we approached him out of the blue, he is just beiing helpful
i dont care whether he supports hunting or not. i dont, but dont have time to sort all these little things
people are dying

fillawelly 2 will happen again on the last weekend of january
last year, @ 40 people walked, it was the worst weather ive walked in, in a long time, it was wet, very very wet
we raised @ €7,000, all of which went to bam, via trocaire emergency fund that was set up
fillawelly 2 will happen in ireland, spain, italy, so far,
perhaps fellow EASAians might do similar walks and raise cash for this emergency
that would be easy to organise, hugely meaningful and badly needed, and also a top quality fun event that everyone can freely participate in
will you?
before this dreadful event happened, we had agreed to do the walk again, and we agreed to do a "global-local" fundraiser, whereby cash would be split between, at the time darfur, and local irish "residents against racism"

we had agreed to do this event every year,
it happens to fall on the celtic festival of imbolc, which marks the new lease of life, the start of spring

There is presently talk of organising another fillawelly soon, this time for one of the most densely populated places on earth: Kibera, one of, if not the largest slum in Africa. To help the Tenderfeet project, set up by pastor Nick Macharia, whom I met in Genova and who left Africa for the first time to seek assistance for the work he was been at for over 20 years. If anyone is interested in getting involved email me
