Privacy International and EDRi Response to the Consultation on Framework Decision on Data Retention
Privacy International (PI) and European Digital Rights (EDRi) call for more objections by organisations and individuals to the European Commission's proposals to retain extensive amounts of data on our fixed and mobile phone and internet activities. This long and detailed press release lays out the current legal objections to the proposed and existing practices.
The Press Release also calls attention to the fact that data-retention (existing currently in a variety of piecemeal implementations) was railroaded in on the basis of terrorism but is actually being used for routing non-terrorist investigations. It is important that EU citizens understand this issue and make it clear that they do not want to be monitored and tracked. Please read.
