Pavee Lackeen in Galway and Toronto Film Festivals
Pavee Lackeen’ Selected For Toronto Film Festival
Perry Ogden’s debut feature film ‘Pavee Lackeen’ has been officially selected for the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival running from the 8 – 17 September 2005.
Irish audiences can catch ‘Pavee Lackeen’ at the Galway Film Fleadh on the 8th of July where it receives its Irish Premiere ahead of its North American premiere in Toronto.
‘Pavee Lackeen’ has been selected as one of six films to screen in the Discovery section of
the festival. Launched in 1996, Discovery points both public audiences and industry professionals toward hot new directors.
The low budget film was financed by Perry Ogden with co-finance from the Irish Film Board. Ogden’s feature charts the story of a Traveller girl and provides an intimate portrait of a resilient and spirited young girl and her proud and dignified family. The film’s cast is made up of mostly non-professionals and uses Travellers depicting lives near to their own.
Director Perry Ogden gave his reaction to the announcment, "I am absolutely delighted to be selected for Toronto. I really am excited to see how an international audience will react to the film and to be included in the Discovery selection is a thrill".
Previous Irish films chosen for the Canadian Festival have fared very well with both Terry George’s ‘Hotel Rwanda’ and Pete Travis’ ‘Omagh’ scooping awards in Toronto in 2004 and ‘The Magdalene Sisters’ winning in 2002.
