Failed RUC recruits have opportunity to reconsider collaboration.

The revelation that none of the Poles seeking enlistment in the RUC were successful in their applications gives them the opportunity to reconsider allowing themselves to become involved with the British Forces of Occupation. The Polish people have a proud tradition of opposing collaboration within their own borders, and so too should they oppose it here in Ireland.

The RUC is no ordinary civic police force, but rather a heavily armed military force acting as the first line of defence for English rule in Ireland. The RIC – though predominantly made up of people from a Nationalist background – was used as a tool to suppress the desire of the Irish people to be sovereign in their own country. Likewise the new-look RUC will continue to be used as such a tool. The British Colonial Police continue to raid Nationalist homes and arrest the occupants, and generally harass the Nationalist – and, in particular, Republican – people.

The fact that former Republicans have allowed themselves to be co-opted into the British system, and to become sponsors for the British Crown Forces, does not alter this. The only workable solution is a federation of the four Provinces as outlined in Republican Sinn Féin's ÉIRE NUA programme. The only contribution from England should be a declaration of intent to withdraw permanently from Ireland to allow the Irish people the opportunity to govern themselves.
