Press Release: Immediate Release - Choice Ireland

“Don’t Send her Packing” say Pro-Choice Group.

Choice Ireland will tomorrow call on the new government to immediately legislate for the X, C and D cases. They will be displaying 20 suitcases outside the Dail in order to highlight the fact that everyday 20 women leave Ireland to terminate pregnancies outside the State.

Commenting Sinead Ahearn said:
“5,042 women gave Irish addresses when seeking abortions in Britain in 2006. This figure does not take into account the number of women who are travelling to the Netherands, Belguim and other countries. In order to highlight the plight of these women Choice Ireland will be displaying 14 suitcases which will be accompanied by 14 abortion stories from “The Irish Journey” and 6 suitcases will be accompanied by flags from the 6 countries most frequented by women from Ireland.”

Commenting Niav Keating said:
“We will be holding a rally on Saturday, 30th June at the Central Bank Plaza at 2 pm as part of our ongoing campaign to fight for abortion rights in Ireland. A recent MRBI poll found that 52% of males and 48% of women aged between 25 to 34 agree with abortion in Ireland when a woman decides it’s in her best interests. It’s time for the Irish government to stop treating women with contempt and ensure that women can avail of abortion services in Ireland.”

Quotes end.

This photo-call event will take place outside the Dail, Kildare Street, at 12 pm on Wednesday, 27th June 2007.
