Sinn Féin Protest
Protest at Private Health Conference.
Sinn Féin activists today protested outside the
Crowne Plaza Hotel, Northwood, Santry, venue of a Private Health
Conference which was addressed by the Minister for Health Mary Harney.
The protest, which was held at 8 am, highlighted Sinn Fein's
continued opposition to the ongoing sell off of the health service.
Speaking in Dublin today Sinn Féin Councillor Dessie Ellis said " The fact
that the Minister was recently too busy to meet with the nurses section of
SIPTU but is available to speak to a Private Health Conference speaks
volumes about the government-led push towards privatisation of the health
service.
"Myself and other Sinn Féin activists are outside this conference
today to protest on behalf of all victims of government policy
on healthcare. For eleven years a Bertie Ahern led government has failed
completely to reform the health service and provide a fair and equitable
system. Universal healthcare should be a cornerstone of any government's
policy. Mary Harney would be better off spending time with the workers in
the health service who are committed to making the system work, and should
not be cozying up to profit driven corporations.
