Cheap winter goodies, mulled wine and seasonal scoff...

Attention bargain hunters!

Griffith Barracks Multi-denominational National School hosts two fund-raising fairs every year. The winter fair takes place next Sunday afternoon with pre-Christmas bargains galore.

So, what can you get here? Let's start with the by now famous book stall and go on to sample the home-made cakes and mulled wine. Then there's the usual bric-a-brack, household goods, records, CDs and DVDs, vintage clothes and jewellery, plants, the wheel of fortune etc. etc. etc.

Did I mention the café which will be serving affordable hot food to all comers throughout the afternoon?

Kids are obviously very welcome and there'll be toys for sale at ridiculously cheap prices (as well as the only libertarian bouncy castle in the country - under 8s only, sorry!).

For the adults, local FF TD Michael Mulcahy has agreed to attend and take his turn on the high chair of doom. For a measly Euro you'll be able to throw balls at a device which will catapult the TD into a vat of steaming bullshit. (That last bit's a lie).

Why bother? Well, it costs more money than the government supplies to run a school which doesn't receive funding from a religious institution. The education cutbacks announced in the budget have made an already bad situation worse. The school needs as much voluntary funding as it can get to maintain the services it already supplies.

Please come along and support equitable education for all.
