Republican Sinn Fein Vice President Des Dalton supports comments by former editor of La Nua.

The comments of Concubhar Ó Liathain former Editor of the Irish-language newspaper La Nua - which published its last edition today (December 19) - leaves no doubt that this valued and respected newspaper is a victim of the Provisionals appeasement of the DUP.

In his comments Concubhar Ó Liathain points out that the paper has been a critic of the Provos failure to live up to its promises regarding the Irish language. It is long known that the Provisionals are not prepared to accept any criticism from within the nationalist community and the cutting of funding to La Nua resulting in its closure is an example of this vindictiveness.

The closure of La Nua coupled with the failure to deliver the much promised ‘Irish Language Act’ underlines the utter capitulation of the Provisionals to the DUP agenda and their willingness to sacrifice even the Irish language as the price of remaining in the Stormont Executive.
