Kildare Sinn Féin's local election candidate for Newbridge, Sean Downey,Highlights Lack of Facilities for Young People

Sinn Féin’s local election candidate for Newbridge, Sean Downey, has voiced his utter disgust at the severe lack of facilities for the people in the Newbridge area. Sean explained “it is deeply worrying to see how little has been done in this area, particularly as the town has seen huge development in other areas yet our young people’s needs are ignored”.

Newbridge like most of Kildare has grown considerably in recent years, it appears this development has come at a price. There is no place for young people to meet in a safe environment, no cinema, skate park, nowhere to play or hear music or even dance in a safe alcohol free environment.

Father of two, Sean is determined to highlight this as the local elections draw near explaining, “it is extremely important that this issue is raised, young people are after all the future of this town and should not be the ones to bare the brunt of such neglect” continuing he added “the economic downturn should not be used as an excuse to neglect the needs of young people, it could realistically present an opportunity with falling property values and more premises becoming vacant”. He highlighted the absolute disgrace as he saw it that “buildings such as the old Oscar cinema lie empty while there is no cinema and there are no proper facilities for young people.
