Le Chéile Saor Condemn Attack On P.O.W Colin Duffy

Today’s incident at Maghaberry prison has brought back memories of RUC screws beating republican p.o.w’s back in the 70’s and 80’s. It has angered republicans across the thirty-two counties of Ireland and simply shows that these beatings continue in the present struggle for Irish republicans in 2009. We all know that the mainstream media in the occupied six counties and the 26 county free state will black this brutality out as if it never happened. The situation in the occupied six counties is far from normal and will remain this way as long as the British government remain on this island. We Le Chéile Saor have released this short statement to condemn this horrific attack on Colin Duffy and condemn the cowards who made it their duty to beat this man behind closed doors. We will show our full support to Mr. Duffy and to all republican prisoners of war who are treated in such a manner. We urge all republicans to make their feeling known on such attacks and let the people of Ireland know that this behaviour will not be accepted.
