Republican Sinn Féin tonight protested a meeting of the so-called “District Policing Partnership” in Dungiven, County Derry. Micky McGonigle – Cathaoirleach (Chair) of the John Mitchel Cumann in County Derry, which organised the protest – told assembled reporters that the meeting was not welcome in Dungiven or anywhere in Ireland. He added that only a 32-County police force in a free Ireland was acceptable to true Republicans.
Protesters held banners and handed out leaflets before storming the meeting and making it clear to those in attendance that they were RUC spies and touts. A vocal protest continued for some minutes inside the venue before dispersing.
Some protesters were prevented from attending by the RUC who were stopping cars coming into Dungiven before the protest.
