REPUBLICAN NETWORK for UNITY National Chairperson, DANNY MCBREARTY has strongly criticised the latest attempt by the anti-Republican RUC/PSNI to disrupt RNU’s political project.
Mr. McBrearty said; ‘On Thursday night, RNU’s National Executive met in North Belfast to discuss the impending impact of budget cuts. During the meeting, local residents informed us of a heavy RUC/PSNI presence patrolling the vicinity.
Immediately after the meeting, two members of our Network’s Ard Chomhairle were followed separately by the RUC/PSNI who naturally waited until they drove through Loyalist areas before stopping them with sirens blaring.
Around the same time, the nearby 174 Community Centre was badly damaged in an arson attack. It is little surprise that the thugs responsible had a free reign to inflict damage on such a vital service. Given that the occupants of eight RUC/PSNI vehicles spent over half an hour harassing the two RNU Activists under draconian legislation.
Despite the reality of British policing in Ireland today, RNU will continue to assert the right of Irish Republicans to oppose partition and the shambles that is Stormont.
Finally, the Republican Network for Unity challenge Nationalist members of the District Policing Partnerships (DPPs’) to publicly defend the right of all political groups to engage in legitimate activities’.
