For traditional Irish republican socialists there are certain realities and difficult choices facing us in the very near future. With the reality of the EU being with us for the foreseeable future and an impending general election in the southern scum state, there are some very difficult choices to be made by committed activists. We can continue with our old policy of boycotting elections, which frankly if we are honest with ourselves, has not been progressive. One of the options that will have to be considered, with a major shift in the re-alignment of political forces, probable after the next election, is tactical voting or voting for the lesser of the evils, who are genuine contenders to be part of Government after the next election. Obviously the two right wing parties of failed Fianna Fail and fascist blue shirt Fine Gael are not an option for any socialist republican, which leaves lackey Labour and provisional Sinn Fein. read full story / add a comment

The UNITE trade union, the second largest union in the Republic of Ireland has called on all working people to vote for a left wing government in the general election likely to be held in March. “Workers should use their vote in the upcoming general election to bring about a left-wing government for the first time in the history of the state,” said Jimmy Kelly, Regional Secretary of Unite the union. read full story / add a comment

The bulk of the banksters money went to Fianna Fail for several election but the bulk of the corporate muck money, now flows from party to party, which includes Fine Gael and Labour. Either way the same targets are achieved, bigger profits for corporations. The sums of money thrown at these Irish politicians, particularly Fine Gael for the next election are mind boggling even by gombeen Fianna Fail standards. read full story / add a comment

Fine Gael the main opposition party in the Irish state, is already flush with corporate and bankster muck money, well over €2 million, already, with just some of it coming in from its own gambling sources.Their long time partners with the dubious and misleading title of 'Labour' have already, more than a million, with big contributions also rolling in, via., the fat cat corrupt front of fake trade union leadership, along with the corporations and banks. read full story / add a comment

Sunday 21 November, the day the Irish government formally applied for a bailout to the EU and IMF, should be marked as the day that the Irish capitalist class were exposed as a rotten, despicable failure, bankrupt in every sense and incapable of offering any way forward. The significance of these developments cannot be overstated; they are a turning point in Irish history and will impact on other countries in Europe and the EU itself. read full story / add a comment

Politics in this country has been made muddy by decades of civil war divisions, clientilism and corruption. As a result the political discourse required for significant social change is constricted. Now is an opportunity to change the Irish political landscape forever, for all progressive groups to demand that FF disband. Here are my Top 10 reasons. I'm sure there are more. read full story / add a comment

OBama and his regime bailed out the rich in the last two years. Working peoples lives were getting harder and harder. the Union leaders backed the Obama regime. So many working people felt they had no other way to protest the Obama regime's right wing policies but to vote Republican. See the real mood in this article. read full story / add a comment

With all the talk of who should govern the country, and how much Brian Cowen drank. There is still the fact that the Irish people are being led around like hapless sheep. It would not matter a damn who got into power, because the banks, EU and the IMF (in the near future) would be the ones calling all the shots. read full story / add a comment

Having chatted recently to many other people on the left so as to try and gauge the possibility of the broadest ever coming together of a revolutionary left alliance on this island, it appears that we are going to miss the best opportunity in making the biggest electoral impact by the genuine left in years. Too many parties/groups seem to be carrying too much historical baggage about each other. This party won't work with that party for this reason....that party won't work with anyone for some other reason....that party can't be trusted because of past mistakes....sniping.....backbiting.....nitpicking........petty grudges.....personalities.....sectarianism......our view is the right one......we have more experience.... blah blah blah blah blah. It is now time to form a new more left of centre Green Party as Traditional Green policies such as Climate Change, emissions reduction and renewable energy, while I agree with them are no longer enough. We don’t just want to save the planet. We want to make life so much better for the people living on it. The current Green Party has not delivered ( with the notable exception of power points for non currently existent electric cars!) and has no new ideas of any note whatsoever. They are no different than the other parties out there at the moment. read full story / add a comment |
