I am William Nicholas Gomes, a journalist and human rights activist. I convey my deepest condolences to the people and government on the death of Veteran journalist, writer and intellectual Mr. Hameed Akhtar who succumb to cancer in Lahore on Sunday, 16 October at the age of 87.

Hameed Akhtar struggled for the cause of peasants, workers and deprived sections of society lifelong. Hameed Akhtar wrote and struggled all his life for the emancipation of the downtrodden sections of society.

He was not only a veteran politician, but also a guardian in politics in the sub-continent. He was not a name for South Asia, he was an institution. The world had lost a great leader and great politician on his death.

I stand here to show my respect to a great hero of Asia. He did not hesitate to suffer for the welfare of the party and struggling people.

Kindly extend my condolences to the family of Mr. Hameed Akhtar, and to the people. Also, please rest assured of my abiding solidarity with the people seeking for Revolution.
