Bradley Manning remembered in Dublin, Ireland

category dublin | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Saturday June 01, 2013 21:43author by Justin Morahan Report this post to the editors

He exposed War Crimes, We support him

Colm Roddy and I staged a small protest supporting whistleblower Bradley Manning at the US Embassy today

It was 1 June 2013, the day of the world-wide solidarity campaign when we visited the Embassy environs in Dublin Ireland at lunch time. We joined in spirit with the protestors around the world in our support of the courageous young soldier whistle-blower.

The reaction from passers-by was overwhelmingly supportive, from those who stopped to chat (mostly with Colm), from those who just waved their approval and from the welcome honks of passing traffic. The sole exception was an irate man who emerged briefly from the back of a taxi to shout at us that we were an absolute disgrace

Bradley Manning blew the whistle on war crimes committed in Iraq and has been in prison for three years awaiting trial.

For most of the first year he was in solitary confinement.

He faces the start of his court-martial hearings on Monday 3 June when Colm and I (hopefully) will again protest outside the Embassy at a time that will make allowances for the mini-marathon.
