The Legalise Cannabis March of 2013 will take place in Dublin on Saturday the 15th of June at 2pm, at The Garden of Remembrance. It's quite clear that Irish legislation needs to change for the benefit of every person in this country. Cannabis has been used as a medicine for thousands of years all over the world. By the 19th and early 20th centuries it was widely used in Western medicine. In peer reviewed scientific studies it has been proven to be effective in the treatment of a wide variety of illnesses including MS, glaucoma, anorexia, alzheimers, depression and even cancer.
It is estimated that tax revenue from the Irish cannabis industry could well exceed 1 billion euro per annum. Thousands of much needed jobs would be created in a range of sectors of the economy. Agriculture, construction, arts and tourism are but a few.
Decriminalising and regulating cannabis would recoup money and power away from the criminal elements in our country and transfer it back into the hands of the taxpayer and government. Gangland criminals would lose the ability to make money off cannabis. Our prison services and police time would also be put to better use.
Regulating cannabis would stop dealers contaminating the plant with glass and other harmful chemicals which damage the health of cannabis smokers.
LCI is an all Ireland association advocating the right for Irish people to have the choice of using cannabis free from unwarranted interference and stigmatisation. We seek investment and research enabling informed choice, and creating the possibility of access to cannabis-based medicines and safe recreational cannabis products.

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3Think of all the revenue it could bring in by taxable paid jobs, and tourism..
Jobs in transport/logistics.Jobs in coffee shops etc.
What it would mean is that businesses would be setting up coffee shops, bringing in tourism, not to mention this will have a knock on effect bringing much needed rejuvenation to other businesses (like restaurants, and hotels, with tourists filling them up) that are currently struggling with austerity post celtic tiger..
I see a lot of businesses struggling in dublin, and they could do with a coffee shop beside them with plenty of hungry tourists booking into hotels and restauarants.
It would bring a surge in jobs surrounding the cannibas industry, this could even save our economy,it would be mad not to legalize it,not to mention some of the medicinal benefits it has..
Support another source of government revenue. Support job creation in a regulated new industry. Support lots of sweet dreams by satisfied, unharrassed consumers.
Here's a great animation video made a few years back. Cannabis should have been legalised years ago.
