Is there a right to die? As the Assisted Dying Bill vote looms, Prof James Alexander ponders the issues, asking if the whole debate would change if we think of it in terms of duties instead of rights.

Net migration?hit a record high of nearly one million in 2023, 170,000 more than previously thought, in an extraordinary indictment of the Tories' post-Brexit record on 'cutting immigration'. No wonder the NHS is overrun.

Imperialists Ripping Down Dublin Alternative G8 Posters

category dublin | anti-capitalism | press release author Thursday June 13, 2013 23:31author by dubaltg8 Report this post to the editors

Imperialist elements have been busy trying to stop citizens protesting.

There has been a systematic effort in Dublin City Center to tear down Dublin Alternative G8 posters. In Nassau Street, Alternative G8 posters had been placed on alternate posts to posters for an event Paul Murphy is speaking at. Every single Alternative G8 poster has been ripped down, while the SP posters were untouched. That's not to imply that the SP had anything to do with it, but its clear that the imperialist agents particularly targeted the Dublin Alternative G8 posters. All our posters in Dame Street were also torn down, while SP and ROSA posters were untouched. The same with Temple Bar and the North Quays.

Given that the forces of the state assaulted one of our people within the first hour of us trying to put up posters, we may well expect every dirty trick from this particular crew. However, sadly, they are not the only imperialist elements we must contend with.

Whoever the guilty party is, our volunteers have been out today re-postering these streets. Every night you tear them down - under cover of darkness as the cowards you are - we will be back the next morning to replace them. Our stall at the GPO today and yesterday received a very positive response - the Irish people know very well what imperialism is and how it recruits native lackeys to do its dirty work - mostly under cover of darkness.

We would ask all anti-imperialists in Dublin to help us show these minions of empire that they will not succeed.

I was telling a friend about the encounter with the Gardai that some activists had when putting up posters as described in an article on this site , he suggested that surely there's CCTV footage of this happening?. If the posters are partially ripped could this not be considered littering and shouldn't DCC have a responsibility to investigate or is it a case of 'Sorry those cameras were down for maintenance'. It wouldn't surprise me If the orders are from the top to destroy the posters under the justification that they're a threat to investment , business , development etc etc etc.
