Forum to Fight the Water Tax and Austerity

category dublin | bin tax / household tax / water tax | event notice author Saturday March 22, 2014 00:53author by pm Report this post to the editors

Forum to organise the fight

This forum will bring together activists who fought the home taxes to learn lessons from other campaigns, such as the Greek SOS Water Campaign and the Anti-Bedroom Tax campaign in Scotland and to discuss how to make water tax a major issue and build a campaign against it now and into the autumn.

The elections are an opportunity for people to express their opposition to water tax and to austerity. A poor result for Labour in the elections and a good result for socialists, Anti Austerity Alliance and other anti austerity campaigners would be a blow to the Labour Party and the government and weaken those attempting to impose water tax.

The second session of the forum on Saturday will cover the broad issue of austerity and will be addressed by John Douglas, general secretary of Mandate and Marie O’Connor, author and public health campaigner. I’d encourage people to come along and to spread the word among their family, friends and communities.

The forum takes place on Sat 22nd March at 2pm

Location: Ashling Hotel, Parkgate Street -just beside Phoenix Park
