This article examines the Transatlantic Free Trade agreement and it's potential repercussions. In 2010 the US mining and gas company, Renco, managed to successfully avoid having to pay compensation to Peruvian locals who were harmed due to pollution by their companies by successfully using a provision of the Peru-US Trade Agreement[1]. Not satisfied with avoiding having to pay compensation, the company has since demanded $800 million from the Peruvian government as they argue that one of the companies they own, Doe Run, was forced into bankruptcy due to an expensive pollution clean-up which the Peruvian government required Doe Run to conduct [2].

another interesting article about the economics of free trade agreements
by fred Fri Jun 05, 2015 14:26
As bought and paid for privatisation ideologues in FG wax lyrical about TTIP, Some extracts: The Transatlantic and Transpacific Trade and Investment Partnerships have nothing to do with free trade. “Free trade” is used as a disguise to hide the power these agreements give to corporations to use law suits to overturn sovereign laws of nations that regulate pollution, food safety, GMOs, and minimum wages.

Unlike Enda, the Austrian Chancellor is prepared to fight the TTIP.
The Chancellor of Austria, Werner Faymann, has warned that Austria could take a case before the EU Court of Justice
over the EU’s intention to sign the Transatlantic Trade and nvestment Partnership (TTIP) with the United States.
According to Faymann, corporations are:
“already powerful enough and should not be handed all the power. We have looked the other way for too long while corporations were establishing a world of their own on a global level, such as tax loopholes. That led the world to the 2008 crash. It is contrary to the democratic ethics of countries like Austria that they should be given a special court and a special right to lawsuits,” he said. He was “convinced that the US as a country with the rule of law is strong enough to refrain from such special legal proceedings.”

Translation : “there can be no democratic choice against the European treaties”.
So says Mr Juncker, well we have known that democracy dissapeared in France after the Lisbon Treaty in 2005, and here it's clearly confirmed by Mr; Juncker
