German state media have systematically slandered Charlie Kirk in the wake of his assassination, says Eugyppius. They portray him as an unhinged and dangerous fascist, just stopping short of blaming him for his own death.

March 8th - ‘Strike 4 Repeal’

category national | rights, freedoms and repression | event notice author Monday March 06, 2017 22:54author by anon - Strike 4 Repeal Report this post to the editors

The Strike for Repeal is a direct action that will take place on the 8th March 2017.

Our demand is that the Irish government call a referendum to repeal the 8th Amendment by the 8th of March. If not, we will strike.

This strike is based on non-traditional strike actions for human rights that we have witnessed in other parts of the world. In October of last year, thousands of people in more than 60 cities in Poland went on strike to protect their access to abortion, and won.

The strike will not be an industrial strike in the traditional sense. It will be inclusive of all types of work, and we encourage participants to be imaginative in how they approach the action.

HOW TO STRIKE

I
If you can strike, do. There will be people in your area also participating and we can put you in touch. If it’s possible, book a day off work in advance.

II
If you are less affected by the lack of abortion provision in this country, show your solidarity by offering to cover colleagues’ hours on the 8th of March.

III
Withdraw your domestic labour on the day. Consider all the work that you’d typically do on that day, and how withdrawing from it might highlight the contribution that you and millions make every day to a country where we do not have access to basic healthcare.

IV
Stage an event at 12 noon or on your lunch break to remember the 12 women who have been forced to travel for abortion that day, and every day.

V
If you are a business owner, consider giving a day off to your employees or completely closing the business on that day.

VI
Wear all black or a black armband on the day to signify your support.

Every person who has an abortion has to take at least a day, whether to travel or stay at home.

Use this day to stand in solidarity with them, and demand change.

#WEWONTWAIT

There are individuals, groups and colleges participating around the country, so depending on where you are, there will be actions nearby in which you can participate. If you want to get involved in organising there are lots of ways to do so, and we would love to hear about any local actions you are planning to highlight the strike on the day.
