Stance on Palestinians

A Democratic support group for Kamala Harris wrote from information@democrats.senatemajority.com an unsolicited e-mail to the author of this article The reply is published below:

[Note: Kamala Harris is the Democratic vice presidential nominee for the 2020 election. ]

Dear Friends

In response to your e-mail message "Kamala is Right!!!":

Living in Ireland. there's little we can do to affect politics in the USA. However our moral support, given the present choice of candidates, would be overwhelmingly in favour of your Biden-Harris team. In particular we like Kamala Harris; we are delighted that she has been chosen to run, we hope she will win and trust her to deliver on her promises.

That said, we are alarmed that she cannot distinguish between her love for the Jewish people and support for the Israeli State and that, consequently, she supports Israel's present actions against the Palestinian people. We love Jewish people and sent our son to a Jewish school in Dublin. We admire especially people like Jewish Voices for Peace who speak out against Israel's atrocities, just as righteous Germans and Poles bravely opposed Hitler's atrocities against Jews, Roma, gays, pacifists, gypsies and others nearly a century ago.

We would love to see Kamala make a statement of intent to the effect that she will not blindly follow the popular, unthinking, pro-Israeli stance of Donald Trump's America. supported financially by AIPAC, that puts the faux rights of imposed immigrant Jewish settlers in the West Bank ahead of the human rights of native Palestinians to live in their own homes.

A Jewish friend of ours, a US Veteran for Peace, Ken Mayers, said at an anti-Trump rally in Dublin in June 2019: "We were told after the holocaust that this would never happen again. What we were not told was that this was true only for Jewish people and did not apply to Palestinians". Eighteen members of Ken's German Jewish family perished in the concentration camps during the Holocaust. “The lesson I took from that is, no one should ever be oppressed,” he said.

Two other Jewish friends, Ellen Davidson and Tarak Kauff of US Veteran for Peace have given powerful eye witness accounts during their visits to Israel/Palestine of atrocities committed against Palestinians in Israel with the help of US money. Ellen, Tarak and Ken are people who were willing to listen and learn.

Please, Kamala, listen to them.

Our remarks about Kamala's stance on Israel and Palestine apply also to Joe Biden. But as we are more supportive of Kamala, her pro-Israeli stance hurts us more.

Best wishes to all
