The power outage in Spain and Portugal wasn't caused by extreme weather, but by an over-reliance on wind and solar. If the UK continues on its headlong path to Net Zero, we can expect similar failures.

Bus workers National Day Of Action next Tuesday the 19TH

category national | anti-capitalism | press release author Tuesday August 12, 2003 14:48author by Paul Kinsella - Civil Public & Services Union (CPSU)author email paulkinsella53 at yahoo dot comauthor address 53 Lorcan Grove, Santry, Dublin 9, Eireauthor phone 087 - 9748511 Report this post to the editors

And Public Meeting tonight

*Public Meeting tonight, Tuesday the 12TH at 7:30P.M. in the Teachers Club, Parnell Square West (Opposite the Rotunda main entrance)
*National Day Of Action next Tuesday the 19TH

Sorry for the very short notice about tonight's public meeting - But I would appeal to anyone who can make it to come along tonight to the Teacher's Club, Parnell Square West (Opposite the Rotunda main entrance) at 7:30P.M., and also to come out in force and support the bus workers on their National Day Of Action, this day week, Tuesday the 19TH. The bus workers are actively looking for support from other workers and trade unions, epecially those in our other Semi-State companies such as the ESB, An Post and Aer Rianta, and they are also looking for support from residents and community groups, as well as from ordinary joe soaps.

Basically the National Day Of Action next Tuesday will involve a nationwide 4-hour stoppage during off-peak time from 10:00A.M. to 2:00P.M., during which time there will be big marches in every major town and city in Ireland. The Dublin protest quicks off from Parnell Square at 11:00A.M. and marching down to the Dail on Kildare Street.

This is only the first phase of a long battle ahead including 1-day work stoppages in September, October and November, and a 2-day work stoppage on December 8TH-9TH, as well as an intensified campaign to really put the heat on during Ireland's six-month presidency of the European Union starting on January 1ST next, 2004.

I have no sympathy for these crazy protests by busmen. Why should citizens of Dublin support them. What we want is a reliable, punctual, efficient, clean bus service, and we're not getting it from Dublin Bus. I recently travelled on a Mortons bus (the big white ones, they run on a few routes). This is a private service, and it was 100 times better than Dublin Bus. If the Dublin Bus workers are so unhappy why don't they seek alternative employment.

Poor, sad seanin.

I knew someone like him once. He used to stand in the middle of the factory floor with his arm up in a hitler salute, shouting "heil hitler", and telling us that socialism would never work.

I'm sure something terrible must have happened to him during his formative years, maybe his mammy droped him on his head, or something.

I think poor seanin is probably more to be pitied than blamed.

Maybe she didn't drop him hard enough.

I have no problem with these workers exercising their rights to have a work stoppage. As long as they don't do what the Taxi Thugs did a few years ago, block our main International Airport for two days. Not to mention blocking all the bridges in the city one day prior to that. That kind of bully boy antics never gets support.
