Not so Fair play in sport

category antrim | rights, freedoms and repression | opinion/analysis author Monday February 21, 2005 10:58author by missing maysfield Report this post to the editors

The predominantly loyalist Castlereagh borough's biased decision to close Maysfield leisure centre, is far from sporting or fair play.

Catholic/republican communities in east and south belfast are now deprived of access to cheap leisure facilities.

Whilst the protestant community in East belfast have access to Avoniel and Robinson's leisure centres.

The protestant community in south belfast have also access to the Olympia leisure centre, the Ballysillan leisure centre in North belfast and the Shankill leisure centre in west belfast.

The catholic/republican community have no leisure facilities in North belfast, and now east and south belfast belfast must travel miles to Andytown and beachmount leisure centres in west belfast.

The only other leisure centre in South belfast is the PEC which is only cheap for privileged students.

Can I just point out Maysfield was closed by Belfast City Council, not Castlereagh Borough Council.
Perhaps the author should read up on his/her subject matter more.
