If a deportation is imminent, then I'm sure theres obviously a reason for it. The last one was in November 2005 and theres obviously some listening that McDowell is giving to the RAR'S concerns but at the same time, the RAR must appreciate that a no deportation policy is impossible nowadays.

Yes there was a well documented deportation last Nov, filmed by Revolt Video, "G.N.I.B deportation protest"
.
There has also been one mass deportation to Nigeria earlier this year and numerous `dulin conventions` where individuals have been deported to england ..

Could a RAR person fill us in on the circumstances surrounding the upcoming deportations and if they're Kocher when, where will there be protest/intervention if there is any.

“Only a tiny minority of Irish people think that all deportations are a bad thing”

Where do you do your research?

Does that mean only a tiny minority of Irish people think deporting Irish people from say the U.S or Australia is a bad thing?

Barra, you misunderstood badly are anonymous friend ' me'. (S)he is very well-meaning.

Let me provide an outline of his/her thinking for further discussion - for I met his kind before and had heated discussions with them:

What (s)he means is that it's OK for Irish people, young, students and not so young, going to other countries, be it the US, Australia and now EU countries and non-EU European countries, and Dubai and Malaysia and further afield [I heard of some young ones waitressing in Vietnam recently!]....and search for work and try to make some money bypassing local regulations and permits. And because we are Irish, those unjust, undemocratic, insensitive governments should not touch our people....that's just unjust and unfair - because we are Irish after all.

Now if a Nigerian, a Somalian, a Bangladeshi...and God forbid an Iranian, an Afghani or Iraqi come here....now these scummy heads should be sent straight back whence they came. No argument. Back in the plane - presto. All they do is take our jobs, scrounge off our welfare, take our housing and hospital places and ogle our women....thus the majority of our people (probably 99%!! ) are all for the Minister of (in)Justice to take even harsher forms of social control. And groups like the RAR and the IAWM and all those liberal do-gooders should really shut up! Unless they want to be locked for 'sedition' or some such crime.

And if you think I'm exaggerating here talk to some people who were outside the Cathedral when the Afghan hunger strike took place.

Could you provide me with a link that details all the deportations that have taken place this year? I haven't heard of any deportations carried out so far in 2006 and if you could prove to me that some have taken place, that would be more appropriate.

author by sadiepublication date Fri Aug 25, 2006 14:49author address author phone Report this post to the editors

It is impossible for madame k to give you a list of the deportations because there doesn't seem to be one. I have a friend taking english classes to get into college here and people from her class have just disappeared.
It is done at night or people are called into the deportations office for an interview, friends asked to wait downstairs, then bundled into a car and off to the airport.
That's exactly the problem.
I know of people who have tried to come for a holiday from south America and been turned back at the airport (after saving for a year to get to visit friends here).
Where is the transparancy?
How are we suppored to know these people's situation?

author by no visaspublication date Fri Aug 25, 2006 15:14author address author phone Report this post to the editors

michael

the people young/old that go to australia, vietnam or anywhere else have things called VISAS which they apply for be it working visas or perm. visas, otherwise they cannot enter those countries

Are you seriously suggesting that Ireland should have an open door policy and no border controls? if somebody arrives with no visa then they need to claim refugee/asylum status, same as if they did it in any other country

why should Ireland not do this?

There was a mass deportation to china this year which got front page coverage on the Evening Herald which doesn't seem to be available online. There have also been numerous dublin convention deportations this year and plenty of stealth deportations in the middle of the night. The whole process is completely lacking in transparency and is done completely away from the eye of the public. If it wasn't for RAR none of it would get any coverage at all. They contact the media and get the stories published.

Where is the proof of this stuff? You CLAIM this is so but without proof it is baseless and remains just a claim, not fact.

Please provide proof of these mass deportations in the middle of the night

If you read very carefully my message, I was not suggesting any strategy or policy - I was simply attempting to outline the anonymista 'me' s position.

On the issue of visas raised by no-visas...we are fully aware that most Irish people going to the US and other places need visas...the question is what happens after those visas run out....the figures for Irish people whose visas have run out but are still living/working in the US is in the tens of thousands. Now you know and I know that Irish Government Ministers, including Bertie, have been knocking at White House's door for 'special treatment'....

As for people coming to Ireland - they need visas to come here too. If they're not part of the EU and the new EU entrants. Nobody without a visa would be allowed inside the airport....there are stories, of course, that some of those visas have been paid by serious money to the honest officials working in our Consulates / Embassies. Another story that another thread. And, of course, you do know the stories of Irish passports being auctioned by earlier FF Administrations...

Now, the Irish Anti War Movement does not have a policy re:open doors/closed doors/half-open doors. All I know is that we have quite a lot of members who are on a limbo - not allowed to work, shifted from hostel to hostel - feeling insecure and under threat every time they meet a Guard in the street or there is a knock at the door. And deportations are taking place...most of them hidden - no publicity, no transparency. And that's why the IAWM and the Anti War Network supports and works with our RAR comrades. Great benefit gig last night in the Lower Deck btw. Keep up the good work.

Here are quotes from some Irish Times articles. They are from a subscription website but you can pay for the access yourself. Of course you could have done this yourself but you probably still don't believe it.

From the Irish times
Friday July 14 06, article by Conor Lally
"Gardaí have already deported 209 so-called asylum shoppers this year under an international convention known as Dublin II."

Monday July 10 06, article by Luke O'Neill
"The State spent more than €250,000 on a specially chartered flight to deport 13 foreign nationals to China earlier this year. The deportees, 11 men and two women, were removed from the State on February 21st."

author by conspiracy theorypublication date Fri Aug 25, 2006 16:16author address author phone Report this post to the editors

But you do know what the Dublin 11 is dont you? they are deported to their origional entry point in the european union and therefore it is that countries responsibility to determine wheter they are genuine refugees or not, meaning they have hopped from country to country, some lodging claims in each one ffs so in theory they are not deportations as these people have claims under another european state and they must remain in that state while the claim is processed, methinks

First of all its not Dublin 11, get that right to begin with. Secondly they are deportations, unless you have some twisted understanding of what the word deportation means. Thirdly there could be good reason for the person leaving the UK, such as the fact that the UK deport people to the war zone's that they have created when other EU countries don't. The UK have to pretend that those war zone's are safe or their whole idiotic propaganda comes crumbling down. Fourthly the quotes I posted were to disprove the nonsnense that their was no deportations this year, which was complete horse shit.

I am off to enjoy the weekend so trolls can bugger off and invent some more lies and be ignored by intelligent people.

The only one telling porkies here is you and i would hardly judging on your response call you intelligent

Dublin 11 removals does not mean that the persons application is not looked at--it in fact means that the applicant is put back to the origional country responsible--therefore it is NOT a deportation

In your comment that was deleted you stated the “most Irish people were not against deportations”. You did not make the distinction between where and who was deported only Irish people were not against deportations.

“Yes, Michael Y, God forbid that the Irish diaspora in Nigeria, Somalia, Bangladesh, Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq and Vietnam should ever be sent home. All twelve of them would be very pissed-off I'm sure”.

Your above comment shows you are a racist piece of s**t or at best an ignorant piece of s**t.

Most of the work they do is not dome in the limelight,

“I don't recall WSM bullshit winning too many votes”.

The W.S.M are anarchists, they advocate direct democracy not parliamentary democracy. Why should RAR waste there time in the political circus where there is much more important and urgent work to be done protecting some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

We live off the back of slavery from so many not so developing countries, a little compassion would not be a bad thing.

Good question.

Heres one for you.

Who has more impact on asylum seekers issues, Michael McDowell or RAR?

I dont believe for one nano-second that RAR would pull more than a dozen votes in any constituency and I suspect they know that too.

How else do you explain the paucity of people attending their protests?

After all, something is clearly wrong in the message when the individuals, RAR have appointed themselves to represent, are even less in number attending.

After returning to work following the weekend I came on indymedia to discover more idiotic anti RAR posters. Conspiracy theory you are some specimen if you don't think a deportation is a deportation. The schools are back this week I suggest you register and attempt to deal with your serious lack of knowledge. And once again it is not Dublin 11, you can't even read the title properly.

As for RAR contesting elections, RAR are an anti racist group, not a political party. The ICP contest elections and they do absolutely awful. RAR have many TD's who are open supporters of RAR as are many county councillors. The Immigration Control Platfrom even ran against Aengus O'Snodaigh (an RAR supporter) to "expose Sinn Fein's open border policy". She did awful, he got elected. So all the absolute horseshit that the anti RAR people are posting on this thread is the same substandard crap that one only expects from the gombeens who continually lie on all RAR threads. Pretty pathetic bunch of anti immigrants you are.
