Vegetable box schemes

category galway | environment | opinion/analysis author Friday September 01, 2006 16:07author by gníomhaí Report this post to the editors

Tired of supermarkets in Galway (and everywhere else) taking over? Here's what you can do:

Local businesses are closing down at an unprecedented rate while large supermarkets such as Tesco are grabbing an increasing share of the market at our expense.

Instead of giving the big supermarkets more money why not keep it local?. If you live in a small household you can get great value organic veggies in Slánú in Renmore (Ballyloughan Rd.) That's near GMIT and Dawn Dairies. It's a not for profit FÁS initiative.

Alternatively, if you live in a bigger household you can get an organic vegetable box scheme. If anyone's interested I can give them a number of a guy who delivers delicious organic veggies to their door. This means the money stays local (having said that some produce is imported when crops fail or for fruit)

I'd definately recommend either -the more money that stays out of big supermarkets' pockets, the better as far as I'm concerned.

Sectors that can knock the Hypermarkets for six are Bakers, butchers and Vegetable shops. Search out your local and give them your custom. Don't let TESCO take over.

I get deliveries from an organic food company. I live in Dublin. The company is called Absolutely Organic. They are really great, very helpful and they give great advice on new receipe's for veg that your not familiar with. They do a number of vegetable and fruit boxes and they also do juicing boxes. I started deliveries with them over 2 years ago now and i have to say i am really happy with their service. I would strongely recommed this company to anyone in Dublin.

Their phone number is 01 4600467 and their email is info@absolutelyorganic.ie.
