Galway Solidarity Protest in empathy with the beleaguered people of Rossport.

category galway | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Friday September 29, 2006 21:57author by TD - Shell to Sea Report this post to the editors

More of the same is planned !

This evening, from 6 to 7.20 PM, 15 Shell to Sea activists picketed the Westside Shell Service Station and we were much heartened by the unstinting support and warmth of the passing motorists, joggers and pedestrians - except for one pathetic creature shouting; "Get a job" and "Hippies" (true).

Galway Shell to Sea were/are most appreciative of Sinn Fein and Socialist Party Young Turks who swelled and graced our ranks.

Another one is planned for next Friday evening, same time same target. Please attend if you're able?.

I hear Paul Williams is up in Mayo making up a story (or rather transcribing quotes from "sources" ) about "IRA intimidation" and "sinister figures" and about how Shell to Sea is completely made up of hard-left Republicans who just want to drive away the multi nationals.

Looking at the cross-section of support at the Galway picket it's amazing that they think people will believe this stuff...

Great work Folks. It's mighty to see our actions in Mayo are being mirrored around the country.

The PR machine is currently stoking the fires of fear in the general public, just like George W and the excuses for invading the Middle East. No doubt we are all supposed to be terrorists down here in the bog, just because some people insist on spelling their name as Gaeilge!

Next week is very likely crunch time for $hell's attempts to get back in charge of the site... something that will never be allowed to happen. Two years to build a refinery is a long time to maintain a Garda presence, and many delays will be encountered even before the first sod is turned.

Many thanks for all the support out there. See you at the gates.

I think its ridiculous these accusations being made that Shell to Sea is being taken over by Sinn Fein. There were people from many different political organisations aswell as independant thinkers at the demmo in Galway. I for one would certinly not be apart of such a protest if it was compleatly run and organised by Sinn Fein. Just look at the photos, they're certinly not all Sinn Fein
