158 academics have signed a letter calling for NATO to admit Ukraine. But they don't address the crucial question of when Ukraine should be admitted: now, or once the war is over. Neither option is straightforward.

Cork Shell station picketted this morning

category cork | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Friday October 06, 2006 11:30author by John Jefferies - Cork Shell to Seaauthor email corkshelltosea at gmail dot comauthor phone (086) 3004573 / (086) 0541328 Report this post to the editors

Up to a dozen members of the Cork Shell to Sea campaign this morning protested at the Shell service station on Victoria Road in the city as part of an escalating campaign in support of the people of the Erris area of County Mayo.

Spiderman (Pat "The Picket" Allen) takes on the might of Shell

This is the third action taken by the Cork group in the last few days since a large force of gardai, including a sizeable contingent from Cork moved in to force the restarting of construction of the controversial Corrib gas pipeline and refinery in the Bellinaboy / Rossport area of North West Mayo.

Around a dozen Cork people made an early start with their protest, first going to the Shell depot (South of Ireland Petroleum Company) at nearby Centre Park Road. There they were surprised to find all mention of Shell, including company logos, had been painted out on the building and the depot was exceptionally quiet. The protest then moved the half kilometre to the Victoria Road Shell service station where a picket was kept up until 9.00am.

Once again many motorists honked their car horns while buses and trucks also hooted their support. Hundreds of leaflets were distributed to passing motorists and pedestrians. Spiderman also came along to offer his support.

Tomorrow the Cork Shell to Sea group will run an information stall / protest at Daunt's Square in the city centre from 1.00pm onwards.

Keep up the great work down in sunny Cork (at least that's what they tell us up here). The "Robbery" banner looks really well by the way.

Ask spidey if he'll take a trip to mayo, he may be the only one able to disetangle the web of lies spun here by Shell.
