A Two Day Conference and Exhibition
Towards Sustainable Airport Development

Great Southern Hotel, Dublin Airport, Ireland

October 23-24, 2006

Air travel currently contributes a great deal to global climate change and so poses a major threat to the environment and our survival on the planet. If we are serious about tackling climate change then we will need to hugely reduce the amount of air travel worldwide. However, vested interests plan to promote and increase air travel by opening new terminals and new routes. "Sustainable" developlment seems mean more about sustaining profits than sustaining a habitable planet.

This conference is sponsored by, amongst others, ARUP engineers, Chambers Ireland (slogan: "In Business For Business"), and Dublin Airport Terminal 2 Ltd. The conference organisers (http://www.airportconference.com/) have close ties to Airports Council International ("The Voice of the World's Airports").

Sessions include "Maximising Economic, Social and Community Gain" and "Growing & Sustaining Future Development". There is only one talk out of 25 that appears to tackle environmental issues, and it is to be given by a Lufthansa employee.

Although this conference was advertised in local libraries in Fingal, there is a registration fee of €726 !

We must make it clear that it is more important to sustain our environment than to sustain corporate profits!
