news report
Saturday October 14, 2006 19:13 by The pointing finger
At a shell to sea stall in Daunt's Square earlier today activists noticed unusual interest and activity from the two cctv cameras positioned near Daunt's Square, traditionally a favourite location for public gatherings and events. The camera closest to the stall could be clearly seen pointing directly at the stall and moving around watching individual activists. Not to be intimidated by such a blatant display of state surveillance people decided to draw attention to this. They labelled the camera pole with a sign saying "Big Brother" and "State surveillance", also an arrow pointing up. Passers by were intrigued, amused and disturbed to see the camera vigorously moving around and pointing directly down its own pole in an attempt to see what was being done to it. The stall itself was personned by shelltosea activists as well as sinn fein, swp and green party member. Leaflets were given out, debate was engaged in, all the usual things that happen at stalls. There was no violence. Excuse lack of pictures, inexperienced reporter. |

A cctv camera earlier today
This is going back a few years when the 360' rotating cctv cameras first appeared in London.
There was one close to an office building and the camera was level with the middle of the 1st floor. Some guy working in his office kept noticing the camera would sometimes turn to his office. One day he was on the phone and turned around to see the camera was once again staring into his office. He tells the person on the other line to hold on and stares at the camera. He then looked back at the camera and said 'can you read my lips'. The camera waited 2 seconds before it nodded up and down.
Good story.
