158 academics have signed a letter calling for NATO to admit Ukraine. But they don't address the crucial question of when Ukraine should be admitted: now, or once the war is over. Neither option is straightforward.

Martin Sheen, for shure, ain't no Islamophobe, no badass, badland dude !

category galway | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Friday October 20, 2006 16:19author by TD - Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign Report this post to the editors

No prima donna, noli me tangere bollocks from this dude !

As the premier event of NUI Galway's Muslim Youth Society, a One Day National Fast for charity was held on the streets of Galway last Wednesday and for good measure, yesterday, on campus, the Galway University students and staff were milked for more human kindness in the shape of serious coin and in Martin Sheen's case, a serious note.

This sweet arsed dude impressed us all with his easy affability and kindness, instead of prima donna, noli me tangere histrionics 'n bollocks, when we requested him to hold the bucket for a few shots, we were graced with sweet vibes, generosity and willingness instead.
ms1_1.jpg

Besides the collection, the other main objective of the event was to invite everyone in the university and its surrounding community to fast with the MYS during the Ramadhan month. As the Mayaysian medical students spearheaded the outrage against the recent propaganda visit of the Israeli ambassador to Galway University, the Galway branch of the IPSC enthusiasticallyy joined in this laudable project as regards the fasting, collecting and indde, the breaking of the fast in the Hub after 6.30PM where a culinary tour de force of Mayaysian grub was for the eating.

Last year, some € 6,000 was collected and the NUIG students collected more donations in comparison with other Universities in Ireland , this year, 80% of the donation will be going to Human Appeal International and the remainder going to Interpal : "the informal name for the Palestinian Relief and Development Fund which is a non-political, non-profit making British charity set up in 1994 to alleviate problems faced by Palestinians and focuses solely on the provision of relief and development aid to the poor and needy of Palestine the world over, primarily in the Israeli-occupied territories, Lebanon, Jordan and in Palestine. In 1996 allegations were made against Interpal and its Trustees in the Sunday Telegraph, however the Telegraph issued the following apology and retraction on 29 November 1997.
"On 26 May 1996, in an article entitled "London fatwa backs suicide bombers", we suggested that the Palestinian Relief and Development Fund (INTERPAL) was run by Hamas activists who encourage and support terrorist activities in Israel. We also reported claims which were being investigated by the Charity Commission that INTERPAL was used to raise money to fund the training of suicide bombers in Gaza and the West Bank. We now accept that the Trustees of INTERPAL are not Hamas activists. We also accept that the Charity Commission's investigations found there to be no evidence of any pro-terrorist bias in the charity or of any channelling of its funds towards the training of suicide bombers. The Commission concluded that the charity is a "well run and committed organisation which carries out important work in a part of the world where there is great hardship and suffering" and that INTERPAL takes every possible step to ensure that its donations go only to charitable purposes, helping the poor and needy. We withdraw the allegations that appeared in our article and apologise to the Trustees of INTERPAL for the embarrassment caused." (Wikipedia)

Human Appeal International is the British international development and relief charity based in Manchester was established in 1991 for "The relief of poverty and sickness and the protection of good health and the advancement of education of those in need or from impoverished countries overseas and in particular Sudan, Mauritania, Ethiopia, Lebanon and Afghanistan." and like Interpal has been smeared with links to "terrorism" 'n what have you.

On April 10, 2006, the New York Times reported that members of the Democratic Party in Ohio had contacted Martin Sheen, attempting to persuade him to run for the U.S. Senate in Ohio. Sheen declined the offer, stating that "I'm just not qualified," saying "You're mistaking celebrity for credibility."

Alright Martin and Muslim Youth !. Galway, for sure, doesn't mistake "credibility for celebrity," "philanthropy for 'terrorism' ".

TD, Great pics and fair play on reports but your writing style is really a big turn off.... What are you on about with this crap language and attitude. I`m convinced it turns more people off than on with regards campaigns, and Galway in particular.

Just tone it down a bit.

However, fair play on committment and dedication

Are you the Palestine solidarity campaign or just a spinoff of the Muslim society? Surely making Palestinian solidarity a religious issue is just silly?

I don't know what it is about the Galway protests, they seem to be more about "promoting Islam" than other parts of the country.

It's always amazing how those who are most vocal in their criticisms are most likely to hide their identity. I presume, 'Jim,' that we can expect any day now a decent and well-written article to appear on Indymedia from your good self? No, didn't think so. And 'Actual Activist,' you're clearly ashamed to be an activist, or you'd come out from behind the funny name. The work that REAL, as opposed to VIRTUAL or ACTUAL, activists do in Galway is praiseworthy. They are up against it. Especially from those who, calling themselves activists, actually simply have grudges against father-figures or the whole world.

Actual Activist's question was reasonable, I do not see why it should not be answered, nor why the identity of the questioner should be made the issue.
