R.S.F. consider fielding prisoner candidates.

category international | politics / elections | press release author Tuesday January 30, 2007 20:32author by Seán Ó Murchú - Sinn Féin Poblachtach - Cork Report this post to the editors

ARISING from a motion passed at the Ard Chomhairle of Republican Sinn Fein.

ARISING from a motion passed at the Ard Chomhairle of Republican Sinn Fein, Comhairle Uladh (Ulster Executive) at its meeting on January 21 said it was actively considering fielding Republican prisoner candidates on an abstentionist basis in the March assembly elections in the Six Occupied Counties if such elections go ahead. A decision will be made in the coming days.

"It is our duty to provide leadership to the that section of the Irish people who will never accept British police, British Courts, British law or British rule in Ireland. By fielding candidates on an unequivocal Irish Republican platform we would offer people a clear alternative to the treachery and betrayal of the Provisionals."

Did not Des O'Malley and Margaret Thatcher change the law after the 1981 hunger strike? I thought serving prisoners were not allowed to stand in elections.

I think it would be a better idea to field candidates from families who died during the war like Peggy O Hara in Derry. Even the likes of Paul Mc Glinchey would do as long as they remain dedicated to the cause for which so many died. However we need unity or else the partitionist parties will gain by any disunity.

it's like they are banged up for years yet and thus their absence if elected (hardly likely) is a foregone conclusion & hardly a political stance. all the same "good old rsf" as bright as ever.

since absentionist candidates can not claim the wages afforded by the imperialist puppet six county statelet - RSF are proposing to save the Brit exchequer money should their impossible participant prisoner candidates be elected.

good old rsf.
