The Irish American Unity Conference (IAUC) greeted this morning’s historic start of power sharing between all the parties in N. Ireland as an opportunity for the people of Ireland to live together in peace and justice.

historic start of power sharing between all the parties in N.
Ireland as an opportunity for the people of Ireland to live
together in peace and justice.

“A Good Friday Stormont government has twice before started down
this path, only to be scuppered by individual parties who refused
to participate in the government to which they has been elected.”
said John Fogarty, President of the IAUC. “It is our hope that
this third start of government will be sustained by the fortitude
of all involved.”

“A true power sharing government between people of different
backgrounds and beliefs would be an inspiration and model for
other societies that face similar problems. However, today’s
start of government will only fulfill that potential if the
politicians involved have the determination to see this
government as the only problem resolving option.”

“While we don’t underestimate the compromises that all parties
will have to make, we do celebrate the day when all parties
respect the representatives of democratically run elections and
all peoples start to work together peacefully for a better life
in Ireland.”
