The end of the GRAPO - one more anachronistic terrorist group is destroyed

category international | crime and justice | other press author Thursday June 07, 2007 18:41author by scorchio Report this post to the editors

This morning with the arrest by the Spanish Guardia Civil of 6 individuals in Barcelona the far-left terrorist organisation "Grapo" who were responsible for 75 murders has ended.

Sympathisers with terrorist organisations in the Spanish state are far and few between these days, but the news might be of interest to their long-standing associates in the IRSP and INLA who often used this very website to call for solidarity and seek signatures on petitions amidst talk of "show trials" & the like.

Sadly however the people of Catalonia and the Spanish state may not look forward to a society without mindless and arbitrary violence as the terrorist organisation ETA which broke its ceasefire with the murder of 2 Ecuadorians at New Year has declared a return to war "on all fronts"

information in English on the GRAPO is scant - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grapo but they were formed in 1975 as the armed wing of the Spanish Communist Party (reformed) & as such their exotic status might have attracted sympathisers like the INLA who sought a lefty kind of murderer and didn't want to cosy up to ETA once Sinn Fein and the IRA had done so.
THere is more wikipedia data on the group in Spanish or Catalan

Funny to consider that ETA are the main instigators of the situation in the Basque Country and that they are responsibles of the peace process not working... yeah lets blame a paramilitary organization which has more than 500 POWs rotting in prison and has been the target of extreme right wing paramilitaries as well as state terrorism, instead of the spanish state!!

this a thread about the GRAPO. not ETA & not the Basque / Spanish peace process which is fucked up at the moment due to the clearly expressed wishes of all parties to the conflict. = They're all happy as larry it's fucked up. Don't bring your Irish / British prejudices (that everyone in the world wants a property boom) with you when you contemplate other peoples' peace processes & don't go putting ETA comments on GRAPO threads. If you knew who the GRAPO were before you found this article then follow the guidelines - add info - express relevant opinion - blaa blaa alphabet soup.
