Justice For Terence Wheelock

category national | crime and justice | news report author Thursday July 12, 2007 17:59author by Con Carroll Report this post to the editors

Waiting for justice. not at any price

If you tolerate this then your children could be next so the song goes

To-day sees the open into the hearing surrounding the death of Terence Wheelock in Store Street Garda station in 2005.
The hearing is in the Coroner's Court Store Street Dublin.

Garda called to give evidence
Sean Campbell. internal investigation. Blackrock
Mary Murphy Store Street
William Johnson Store Street.
Hanly retired 3 months ago from An Garda Dun Laoghaire.
State pathologist Marie Cassidy.

Hanly tells court that there were no bruises toTerence body & that he hung himself in cell.
He also couldn't tell if the cell had since been refurnished since 2005. until he was prompted by another member. He told the court that he was investigating on the behalf of commissioner Mc Hugh. There was no emergency buttons for people in cell to call if they needed assistance. Hanly was involved into the investigation of Veronica Guerin shooting at Lucan Garda St. where Paul Ward from Crumlin was been questioned about the shooting. After been in prison, he was found not guilty. He was also involved in the investigation in Abbeylara of John Mc Carthy.

William Johnson gives evidence about situation at Store Street, tells about telephones not working. Remember these guys carry mobiles on their personal.

Mary Murphy gives evidence. says she checked on Terence. 14.10 pm. then she finds him in a situation in which he has changed. Calls for assistance, at 14.35. In another statement she says at 14.10, she was with another person. CK at 14.10. Murphy watch doesnt correspond with clock in Store Street. She then says that she checked to see Terence at 14.40. She discuss this with Johnson.

There was photographic evidence shown to the hearing of bruises on Terences body.

State pathologist gives her evidence.
Marie Cassidy after viewing photographic evidence, at hearing admits that there is bruising on body, also marks with swelling. which shouldn't have been there. She is asked if this was as result of been assaulted while Terence was in custody. Her response is that bruises on body could have occured elsewere.

There are people who have shouted about their support for justice Terence Wheelock who were absent to-day. Maybe they didn't know about the hearing today. They may be away. If you are around tomorrow come along and attend the hearing. Give the Wheelock family support. 11.am cornorers court Store Street.

i think it ivery much reality, kennedy assination i dont know, social welfare dont know...
i do know this it is only a matter of time befor an indepedent inquiry will be established.
This case has many disturbing aspects to it and has truobled a lot of people questions need to be answered in the public's interest.
I am confident that the new ombudsman commision well treat this case very differently than what the garda's own internal investigation, which was shrouded in secrecy and not made public, we dont live in russia, and we should not have to put up with that kind of nomsense, thank god this kind of commision was set up . long over due...

What involvement had Terence Wheelock in the Kennedy assasination ? How can any agency with the word Garda in it be independent? The Governemenet pays the Garda Ombudsmans budget in the same way they pay Wheelocks social welfare. Hardly independent ? If there is going to be justice ignore the opinion of the Pathologist employed by the family who stated that he did not believe an assault took place. GET A GRIP ON REALITY

you paint a pretty picture al,
but i cant get my head around the gaurds behavour that day
so now the station is metal and concrete.
and theres no signal for mobiles on any of the networks, and everybody leaves there mobile at the desk,
and oh yeah, the landline is broke too. wow totally isolated from the outside world! and its a police station!
well unfortuanatly, for young wheelock that was the tragic case.
nobody to help this lad, or come to his aid
readers are we suppose to accept that terence wheelock gouged through this solid concrete with his bear hands to fit a lace a round a a metal alarm panel fushed and incased in a conrete wall?
come on al.
why did you remove him from the cell why not commence CPR there, you seen to know first aid..
is not moving a seriously ill person a requirement of first aid?
and why renovate a cell where a potential crime was carried out?
would it not of made more sense for the gardai to show the emergency personel the cell at the time?
instead of forensically cleaning it down not to mention painting the walls befor there solicitor had seen it?
and why the mistakes with the custody records? a legal document.
why where gardai who searched terence not listed in the custody record?
and why where there such a delay in ringing emergency services.
according to the custody records terence was checked 9 times in an hour.
While the other detainee arrested for questioning alongside him was checked only twice.
three out of those 9 times where with in a 12 min time frame
minutes befor he was supposedly found hanging,
(once every 4 minutes) if we are to believe this version of events put forward in a custody record and presented to the coroners court,
then we have to accept that no sooner was this gaurd walking down a hall then he was walking back up again to check in on a lad that was suppose to be a sleep at 2.40 pm in the day. unusual behaviour.
litrally minutes befor he was alleged to have woken up and decided to end it all , gouged out a wall fixed a lace and then strangle himself,
oh and by the way on those occasions mins befor his injuries its stated in big letters ALL IS WELL. and that he was asleep. hmmmm this is by the gardai's own version,
And when you take in to account medical evidence which suggests that terence was with out oxygen for oveer 40 minutes. it is incredible
put simply is does not add up.
And a indepedent inquiry is the only way to find out the truth of that day, i would glady accept its findings.
why dont the gardai welcome this?

author by Alpublication date Sat Jul 28, 2007 14:43author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Hang on a second, theres a standard method for removing someone thats hanged themself? They give lessons on this do they? Actually they do but your told to relieve the pressure first such as picking the person up then remove the item. The method to remove is in your hands, the item its attached to might be easier to reach, not as tight or simple removed once the pressure has been relieved from it. Or possible its easier to remove the item from the persons neck. Its a case by case situation and anyone with half a brain and basic knowledge or experience would tell you this so dont try and make out that the A, B, C of how he was removed from the cell indicated anything but an emergency.

Did anyone think that maybe not all Gardai carry mobile phones? Or that they were left at a desk or even that underneath all that metal and concrete they dont get a signal? Jesus the conspiracy theories are really getting lame now.

Roll on the Ombudsman, will you accept his decision when these lies against Gardai are exposed as exactly that? I think not.

The report continues that it "may be the case that instead of removing the cord from Mr Wheelock's neck by loosening the noose, which would be the expected emergency response, that the cord was first removed from the bell plate and repositioned subsequently for the photograph." No physician involved in Wheelock's care at the Mater gave evidence at the inquest

there are many who like to be arm-chair thrillers
it can be a lonely walk for those who want justice and truth
the justice for Terence Wheelock campaign would put many to shame.
one should read yesterday article in Sunday Tribune 15/06/
about the evidence which was not accepted into the inquest into the death of Terence Wheelock. it is very serious.
all the more reason for a full independent inquiry

she also stated that the she could not explain severe swelling on his knuckles and hands pluss grazing at surpised her when she examined sharpers pictures of the deceased man, but stated that it might no of happened in the station??? who does she know and admitst it could of happened at time of arrest and be consistent with an assault but not nesscesarily on him?? very media concious if you ask me?
this is the same woman who failed to examine photos when she reached her earlier conclusion in nov 06, and was sent back to reveiw her position, she does not want another brian murphy ,

No! Guard Watch. The pathologist didn't say that the bloodstains could have come from one of Mr Wheelocks friends. The pathologist was much more precise in her finding. She said that blood from a near relative was found on Mr Wheelock.

You will no doubt join with me in demanding that the Gardai now re-open the criminal investigation to determine what really hapened to the unfortunate Mr Wheelock that night. I understand that the Gardai would welcome the events of the night being investigated by an independent investigation team from a foreign policeforce.

We demand justice for Terence Wheelock!

the body of a man has been found face down in a pool of his own blood in garda store street station....state patholgist ( garda spokeswoman) cassidy has said it is an obvious case of suicide.....the first 17 stab wounds indicated minor resistance but the resultant lacerations and bruising around the neck and abdomen area of the "suicide victim" clearly indicate the man was hell bent on suicide. the state pathologist also remarked that the "blood could have come from any one of the victims friends" clearly bracketing the victim and his friends as a group of violence adrenalin junkies and showing scant regard for the victims families or/and friends

Inquest hears that Wheelock died from injuries from low-level hanging
The State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy has said that Terence Wheelock died from injuries sustained from a low-level hanging. She told the inquest into his death that Mr Wheelock suffered irreversible brain damage during the incident and that the autopsy showed no evidence of significant brain injury.

Dr Cassidy said the markings on Terence Wheelock's neck, below and behind his ears and under his adam's apple were consistent with those sustained with a narrow ligature. When photographs of Mr Wheelock's injuries, three months prior to his death were shown in the court Dr Cassidy remarked that they were much better quality than the ones she had seen.???

She said the grazing on Mr Wheelock's elbow and lower back was similar in appearance to those made by the ligature.??? She said there was no evidence of a struggle and that the grazing may have occurred while Mr Wheelock's body was being moved.

http://www.independent.ie/breaking-news/national-news/g....html
On the stand this morning, Inspector William Johnston who was on duty the day Terence Wheelock was arrested, said he was completely sure the scene from which the deceased was removed was not interfered with. He said he did not see any blood or vomit on his clothing and had taken a mental note of it.
Inspector Sean Campbell said he had noted a ligature mark on Terence Wheelock's neck when he saw him in the hospital and that he had collected a T-shirt belonging to him from a nurse a number of days later.
