Hard core philosophy lucid dreaming cooooooooooooooool rotoscope animation

waking_life.jpg

(from the wiki!)

n a broad scope, Waking Life is about a young man in a persistent lucid dream-like state. The film follows its protagonist as he initially observes and later participates in philosophical discussions that weave together issues like appearance and reality, free will, our relationships with others, and the meaning of life. Along the way the film touches on other topics including existentialism, situationist theory, posthumanity, and the film theory of André Bazin. The young man eventually comes to the realization that he is dreaming and that he is unable to wake up. By the end of the film, he fears that he might be dead. In this way, it may have been influenced by Ambrose Bierce's "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge".

Unsurprisingly, given the above themes and content, Waking Life is much more focused on dialogue (often even monologue) than on plot action. In this emphasis, it echoes the 1981 film My Dinner with Andre and the 1990 film Mindwalk. Long scenes in Waking Life consist of nothing but head shots of characters while they run through existential diatribes. The characters and their speech are very reminiscent of Linklater's earlier cult classic, Slacker. (Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy even appear as their characters from Linklater's Before Sunrise; kind of a prequel vision.)

waking life: classic film, really worth watching as it touches on the profoundness of all this things: life, dream, game.....

watch it online here
http://stage6.divx.com/user/qdouble/video/1301880/Walki...gLife

reminds me of something Lao Tzu is supposed to have muttered about awaking from a dream, a most amazingly beatiful dream in which he was a butterfly.....he woke up and is supposed to have said :
"am I lao Tzu, who has just woken out of a beautiful dream in which i was a butterfly. Or am I the butterfly who is now having a dream of being Lao Tzu"

Lao Tzu, is credited with writing the Tao Te Ching, the second most translated book in the world after the bible, 600BC, book of poetry, "takes half hour to read.....or a lifetime"

a taster, part of 25 of 81

There was something formless and perfect
before the universe was born.
It is serene. Empty.
Solitary. Unchanging.
Infinite. Eternally present.
It is the mother of the universe.
For lack of a better name,
I call it the Tao.
