Cork bike ride and street fest to celebrate Car Free day

Get on your bike for CEF's Rebel Pedal this Saturday Sept. 22nd to mark European Mobility Week. Cyclists will be meeting at 11.30am, Emmet Place (at Opera House) for the 40-minute cycle, followed by a street festival at Emmet Place from 1pm. All welcome!

The Rebel Pedal, a 40minute leisurely bike parade through Cork City Centre, will feature plenty of vintage and unusual bikes, live music and colour. Families, groups and individuals are welcome to come along to Emmet Place at 11.30am and join in.

The Rebel Pedal will be followed by a street festival at Emmet Place with:
* The Bike Doctors of Cork Cycling Campaign- bike maintenance advice and minor repairs
* Pimp My Bike Team- spice up your bike with a free makeover
* Cork Circus Explosion Acts - Mr. Cro’s Show, Mad Scientist Uni-Cyclists, Superior Sedan Service and more!
* Prizes for Best Dressed Bike, Best Biking Pair and Best Old Bike
* Display of vintage and unusual bikes
* Cork Community Bike’s Sculpture Bike Bulls and bike-powered Juicer
* Free Indian Head Massage service and refreshments
* Cork Green Map, local bike shops, food, kids’ face painting, live music and more
* Free Park and Ride Services all day and an extra free service from County Hall.

There will be Garda escorts for cyclists coming into town from the suburbs starting at the following meeting points:
10.00am Cyclists meet Colaiste Choilm Ballincollig (Garda escorted departure for town at 10.30am)

10.30am Cyclists meet Dunnes Stores Car park, Ballyvolane (Garda escorted departure for town at 11.00) : Co-ordinator Fergal Carton (086 286 1722)

10.30am Cyclists meet at the new library car park, Wilton (Garda escorted departure for town at 11.00) : Co-ordinator Adam D’Arcy (086 1234 364))

10.30am Cyclists meet at Douglas Village Car park, Douglas, near Bank of Ireland end (Garda escorted departure for town at 11.00): Co-ordinator Tom Walshe (087 1347442)

A section of the city centre will be pedestrianised for the afternoon but cars will have access to the city. If you want to leave the car behind, Cork City Council are running free park and ride services all this week with an extra service from County Hall on Saturday.
