Time for Starmer to be honest about what Net Zero means, says Chris Morrison. Rationing, blackouts and travel restrictions in five years. That's according to a Government-funded report that, for a change, says it plain.

Meet the woman so afraid of climate change she made her husband get the snip and refuses to have children. It's "selfish" to bring children into the world "when we don't know if it's going to exist in 100 years".

First ever All-Island Parkinson's Conference Nov 2-4 in Slieve Russell Hotel, Cavan

category cavan | health / disability issues | event notice author Monday October 29, 2007 12:14author by AK - Parkinson's Association of Ireland Report this post to the editors

A weekend away, new information on Parkinson's and a chance to meet others in the same boat

AN ambitious project, a conference organised by the Parkinson's Association of Ireland in cooperation with the PDS (NI Branches), this grew from an idea by two officers of our Cavan/Monaghan branch, who had been in touch with the PDS Fermanagh Branch.

We have a pretty ambitious all-island Parkinson's conference in the Slieve Russell Hotel in Ballyconnell Co. Cavan coming up next weekend -on the 2nd 3rd (main day) and 4th of November. It is a conference, and also a weekend away, with some of the costs of the delegates subsidised, as most people with Parkinson's are elderly and therefore on a fixed and modest income.

Friday evening Ray Lynam will be making a guest appearance, and we are delighted that the European Parkinson's disease Association's President, Stephen Rickard, a distinguished speaker and an advocate for Parkinson's will be there for the weekend.

Saturday we have presentations on different aspects of living with Parkinson's, including the drug management of Parkinson's, depression in Parkinson's, Parkinson's Nurse Specialists and their role, and surgery for Parkinson's. This is both a conference and a weekend away, and open to people with Parkinson's, their carers, health professionals and anyone with an interest, and so far people are coming from all over Ireland!

This will also be a morale building weekend, as the social isolation that often results from advancing Parkinson's is perhaps worst amongst those who are more elderly.

More details are available on our website www.parkinsons.ie or by phoning me, or Pauline in our office on 1 800 359 359 or or Chairperson Una Anderson Ryan 087 2511156. A cooperative effort with the PDS (NI Branches), this first ever all island Parkinson's meeting will we hope not be the last!
