To the electorate Bertie fools wholly responsible for the state of play...Health
Today's papers suggest 'Bertie it is time to go' and would Mary Harney go with him. Also included is Professor Drumm and the bureaucrats in the HSE.
Many years ago, women of Ireland marched in their thousands, outraged against the inequality they endured of not having the right of freedom to choose Abortion, Contraceptives, to work when married. I ask where are the liberals now.
I also ask women like Dr. Patricia Casey, Gillian Bowler, Dr. Mary Robinson, President McAleese alia Goodie shoes, Dana who extended the hand of friendship to Revd. Ian Paisley, at the launch of her book, Angela Kerins of National Disability whho received an honorary phd sometime ago in recognition for her work - unknown, Dr. Peggie Fine-Davies, Centre for Women Studies, Trinity, Marion Finucane, Nell McCafferty, Sr. Stanilaus Kennedy, Focus, Peig Sheehan BA Hons, Dr. Eleanor Rose Clarke md....
These women heralded the womens rights issues in the 1970's, 1980's and onwards. They turned the tables and stalked the men; they became hunters of the men. Terry Keane and Dr. Eleanor were responsible for closing down the dance hall era and introducing the more smuchy disco arena - only a few decades ago.
Where are these women know in support of their fellow females caught in the nasty web of this cancer disgrace in our hospitals. I believe the only support they have received from overseas is from 7 Commanche women (Indians) on the researvations in Arizona. These women are somehow related into the Kerry area......and exchange newspapers by web.
They are appalled at the conditions of hospitals for Irish women. These women have a hospital of excellence on their reservation. They don't have Professor Drumm or his like, they have their own drums to beat and these drums produce first class medical hospital for all Indian women on the reservations.
Ireland we are told is the 2nd wealthiest nation (I laugh) and we have a despicable disgusting heath service for the Plain People of Ireland, I ask why? Over 25 years ago, Haughey said, 'tighten your belts - we are overspending' while he sailed the High Winds of the Atlantic with Terry and bottles of champers.
How could the Liar Bertie Ahern, having taken a Euros38,000 pay rise, again repeat Haughey's words - Tighten up........why do we take it, all these years?
Why the passive resistance amongst the Electorate, that represents in the main, the Plain People of Ireland.
Michelle
I will not say much about the Health System, the HSE, Professor Drumm, Private Medicine v. Public, the raison d'etre for same, the MRSA, the lack of a proper health system that treats people with Mental Health problems in a dignified way.
It is not unreal to expect that Psychiatry as a profession employs people, with a global experience in their expertise. These people, ought to model themselves on say Dr. Patch Adams, Professor Anthony Clare and others, who know/understand and grasp what is needed for people who have a range of mental health difficulties. The models exist, St. Patricks Hospital, the Maudsley in London, the Priory, St. Edmondsbury. If you have the model - what needs to be determined is cost.....It is but an equation with an outcome.
Neurology is the same. The people with acumen are in the hospitals, they are the consultants with experience. They grasp their needs. I heard a Dr. O'Dwyer speak on TV. He made sense. Yes, there is a need for more consultants in neurology, but more importantly there is a need for a 'step down' neurology team, to deal with waiting lists and to also focus on the Rehabilitation of people with neurological problems..
I mention these areas, because I have direct experience in both and can only state that lack of impetus to create a patient centred end product service, is badly neglected, and I suspect it involves the age old bullying, status take, and jobs for the boys......Let us get real and innovative.
Pre-accident, I worked in London in Corporate Finance. Mergers and Acquisitions always fascinated me - the Chinese Walls environment that invoked the secret of who was making a Dawn raid and on who......This too is an equation as company Drinks takes over company drinks other brand....
Then the cut and thrust starts. People are appointed to positions and their job becomes hire and fire. It has to be so.....there are redundancies .... but the company answers to its shareholders and as we can see with the banks presently, it is the shareholders (no different to the patient) need answers.
We now have VHI, Bupa where Quinn Direct merged, Vivos
52% of people are prepared as it stands to paying health insurance (which costs a lot). Why not allocated funds from the Treasury to buy an insurance premium for what used to be known as the medical card base.
The medical card has been granted to everyone over 70 - is this really practical? A lot of these people will have had Health cover all through the years and it only benefits the insurance companies if they drop it.....This in turn means a lot of doctors lists are full.....
Again I can only recommend Dr. Neligan's Opinion piece in the Wednesday Supplement to the Irish Times.
One last question I ask tonight - we are desperate, we are between a rock and a hardplayer - the taxpayer. We need some dodgy deals now, we need the wink and the nod doctor, we need the wink and the blink consultant. Neptune calling Tom and Michael Bailey - Earth needs you, please come in your space ship and help...Yes, there was another man of organisational notoriety in the news during the week - he needed a lot our Gardai to round him concerning his failure to submit a number of tax returns. He may feel kindly to the health service and in particular to Neurology in Drogheda i.e. apart from the fact that it is reported that the doctors said he 'he feigned the neurological symptoms' and discharged himself. Somehow, the patient confidentiality that medicine is about was cast aside.....

Dublin 4 - Wellington Road. In my eyeset, I saw this man tied to a tree, he was half mast......I asked why.......cut a tree that was healthy and he said the birds dirty the windsceen of the doctor's sports scar.......
I thought what has happened to those Plain People of Ireland; those doctors that saw nature with compassion....People like Dr. Noel Browne - his portrait in the National Gallery, for instance.
