Riots Could Sweep Streets of Britain if Immigration Not Curbed ? Rachel Reeves Sun Aug 04, 2024 09:00 | David Craig
Riots could sweep the streets of Britain if immigration is not curbed, Rachel Reeves said in 2016. Yet the now-Chancellor's prescient warning was nowhere to be found in Labour's response to the current disorder.

Until this week, Keir Starmer told us the criminal justice system is at capacity, says Laurie Wastell. Turns out, we can clamp down on crime and disorder just as long as the target is the reviled white working class.

Appears to me the organisers haven't thought this through at all or maybe they are going for a debate on bashing the gardai
It just says that there'll be people there representing those groups, not that they'll be the panellists. And actually, what do you think the chances are that, even if invited, someone from the Garda or the Ombudsman's office even would attend?
It would be a good idea to have a more balanced panel. I know it's not likely that the cops will turn up or that someone might speak for them but it would be worth asking. At least then if they don't turn up you can let people know that they were invited.
Maybe one of the right wing media commentators might speak for the cops?
Don't think this is about a wanky academic discussion giving 'both sides'. those speaking have already suffering from the actions (and inactions) of the guards, the judicary and the state. I'd imagine that its about building real and lasting links between families and communities suffering from unaccountable action of the the guards,
i think that all these families have suffered injustice
so boo woo if there one sided lets here there side
the side mainstream media wont print
because there to close to the cops with there socalled "sources"
it will be very interesting to hear there stories
If I were inviting a number of people who had suffered at the hands of violent others, I would not necessarily invite representatives of that group of violent others as it may make the victims feel unsafe, and perhaps inhibit their participation in the event.
While I agree that a public debate between representatives of people who have been at the recieving end of Garda brutality and representatives of the Gardai would be worthwhile and interesting, the organisers of this event have obviously decided that this is not the space for such a debate. This event is not an oppositional public debate and should not be expected to be so. If someone wishes to see a public debate on this issue then perhaps they should call for one to be organised, or organise one themselves if they are in a position to do so.

Good point AD. My previous comments were directed at the “fuck the pigs” wankers who probably only read about police brutality in a book.
I still think inviting the police or their representatives (who wouldn’t turn up anyway) would give the organisers the high moral ground in the eyes of the ordinary joe public. All these campaigns need to keep spreading the word not just preach to the converted (a very comfortable position for some people).
By the way, having heard Terence’s brother speaking I’m sure he would love to debate this publicly with the police. That is why none of them would be willing to turn up.
The debate will be open to the public any one can go its on oconnel st.
i'm sure if the gardai want to attend there is nothing stopping them.
i remember the anti corruption in the mansion house hosted by frank mcbrearty,
there where cops there and some horrendeouse storys of corruption.
even the the baton weilding robocop was there and many others.
so i dont know if they need a writen invitation to come
and who is to say that gardai haven't had one?
... Thurs nite, 7:30, Royal Dublin
In relation to the Spike where abouts is the Royal Dublin?
Hi Liam !
With the Spike 'monument' behind you , stay on the traffic isle and walk up O'Connell Street towards the Parnell Statue/'Ambassador Cinema' building - you'll see the hotel on your left-hand side.
I hope this meeting gets good media coverage ; it deserves it .
Sharon.
