The ?10.5 billion cost of compensation for Waspi women ? which Labour has said it is now considering paying out afresh ? would wipe out the money raised by a 1p income tax rise, figures show.

The BBC obviously leans heavily Left, says one former staff member, writing anonymously in the Daily Sceptic. But to the people who work there, their right-on views are just the 'normal' and 'objective' way to think.

Women are being told it's "uncool" and "Republican" to have a boyfriend, with some even cropping out their partners' heads on holiday snaps. This is not going to help the birth rate or women's happiness, says Joanna Gray.

offsite link A BBC Reckoning for the Covid Lockdowns is Overdue Wed Nov 12, 2025 11:26 | Will Jones
Trust in the BBC has been collapsing for years. For many, it finally died during Covid when the national broadcaster took on the role of chief cheerleader for the lockdowns, no dissent allowed. A reckoning is long overdue.

Produced and directed by Ronan Doyle

OIL, SMOKE & MIRRORS (2006, 50 minutes)
Produced and directed by Ronan Doyle

Peak Oil is a subject of no little controversy. We don't know exactly at what point in time global fossil fuel production will reach its maximum, and what the effects of the following period of declining supplies and reserves will be. People who believe that it's imminent have been decried as alarmist, and those who say we'll have plenty of time to prepare for it have been accused of naivete.

Ronan Doyle's film addresses the subject in the context of the September 11, 2001 World Trade Center attacks and the resulting "War on Terror", arguing that Peak Oil is fast approaching, and that many of the world's developed nations have based much of their recent domestic and foreign policies on this fact. Interviewees include Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed, Philip J. Berg, Christopher Bollyn, Colin Campbell, Julian Darley, Richard Heinberg, Michael Meacher MP, Paul Roberts, Chris Sanders, David Shayler and Webster G. Tarpley.

Oil, Smoke & Mirrors has been seen at events and festivals all over the world. It has also notably been removed from a number of programmes where it was due to be shown, most recently at a festival in Geneva. Whatever your views on Peak Oil, Iraq, Sept. 11 or US foreign policy, it's a film well worth seeing, one of the more thought-provoking pieces of work to come from Ireland in the last few years.

There'll also be music, of course: Rollers/Sparkers are not only good friends of Ronan as well, but will also be releasing an album on our label in a few months, so the two-thirds of them that aren't in the UK right now will be DJing as The Mohn & Jonty Show.

Because of the special nature of this Lazybird, it'll be free in, although a voluntary donation of a euro or two that we can give to Ronan and the Rollers for their efforts would be much appreciated. Hope to see you there.

Thanks,
~lazybird~

There is a version with lots of comment replies of Andrew's article: "The politics and reality of the peak oil scare" on Indymedia here: http://www.indymedia.ie/article/81815

And there is also an earlier article to the one above titled: "Anarchism and the Peak oil argument " which can be found here: http://www.anarkismo.net/newswire.php?story_id=2672

In the past year or so many writers of this topic and related topics have really began to clarify a lot of things and one of the clearest writers on this has probably got to be Richard Heinberg. It is well worth reading through his monthly Museletters: http://globalpublicmedia.com/topics/museletter and http://www.richardheinberg.com/museletter

In the past year he has come to the conclusions and many agree is that after Peak Oil, we essentially very soon afterwards reach Peak Everything. He and others too have said that the economy is probably no longer going to grow as it did for the first half of the oil age. This has big implications for the money supply, the creation of debt and of course your pension, because if the stock market on average is not going to be growing, then is your pension?
