The flag of the Spanish Republic
The poet Charles Donnelly, who died on 27th February 1937 at the age of 22 fighting in the Spanish Civil War for the International Brigade, will be commemorated in an event taking place on Tuesday 26th February at 7:00pm in Theatre R in the Newman Building, Arts Block, UCD Belfield.
In conjunction with a public lecture by Gerald Dawe of Trinity College Dublin, hosted by the UCD School of English, a plaque in memory of the poet will be unveiled in the concourse of the Newman Building. The plaque has been commissioned by the extended Donnelly family, following a proposal by the Charles Donnelly commemoration committee to commemorate him as a UCD student and to acknowledge his significance not only to 1930s Ireland but to today's generation. Please feel free to inform anyone you think might be interested in Charles life of the event.
