Pope Leo, like Francis, is an open borders enthusiast for whom it seems no migrant should be turned away. Why are senior churchmen so blind to sense and deaf to public concerns on border security, asks Prof Roger Watson.

International Criticism of Mc Dowell Immigration Bill

category national | rights, freedoms and repression | other press author Monday April 07, 2008 18:56author by One of Many Readers Report this post to the editors

Leninhan in the Revolving Chair

its funny to have a headline on the newswire with Mc Dowell's Name on it, but current
Department of Justice head Mr Brian Lenihan TD failed to separate himself adequately
from the racist policy of his former government cohort ;and has garnered international
and national criticism on his proposed implementation of the 2006 'Immigration,
Residence and Protection Bill'

in fact its only an Immigration Bill because Mr Mc Dowell was forced to implement
International protection treaties on October 10th 2006. To date only one woman has
been granted a subsidiary protection order for FGM.

The UNHCR has released a 14 page critique of our immigration policy.

The Ombudsman for children Emily Logan has released a critique of our Protection
Legislation. She states that not enough is done to protect child immigrants.

The Law Society has asked for copious amendments and excisions.

The EU had widely criticised Irish and UK rules against Romanian and Bulgarian
work and marriage laws.

The Bill is accessible on http://www.justice.ie

http://www.indymedia.ie/article/79003 refers to the protection aspect which was enforced
by the EU and is not adhered to in relation to female victims of violence nor to their
children.

http://www.indymedia.ie/article/79263 refers to the Irish and British immigration laws.

The state is focussed instead on reassuring Irish people that it will build a huge detention
place at Thornton, which is subject to scrutiny because of the cost of the land, the
amount of money paid for it and the zoning problems.

The state has not said who will run this concern. but public /private partnership
has been bandied about.

No mention has been made of faciliities for women who made require services
on either the Dept of Justice Website nor in relation to the problems highlighted
by the above named organisations.
