Dirty tricks, razor blades & the Lisbon Vote No campaigners

news report
Monday June 09, 2008 14:46 by TD - Free Palestine Campaign
Don't let them treat us as mushrooms; keeping us in the dark and covering us with horseshit? Following the theft and damage of Lisbon Campaign for Middle East Justice and Peace signs in Dublin, Cork and Limerick, Galway on Friday night had a visitation of similiar malovolence when two large signs were torn from their anchorages, sliced into pieces and, bizarrely, after the top sections containing the text; "Israel Killed 52 Palestinian Children" were razored off, whatever, and stolen, the remaining pieces were neatly arranged on the grass - the signs highlighted the fact that Israel killed 52 Palestinian children in the first 18 weeks of 2008 and yet the EU, true to its hypocritical colours, refuses to impose sanctions. When appraised of the latest outrage, unbowed, Sean Clinton, head honcho of the Lisbon Campaign for Middle East Justice and Peace traveled from Limerick City yesterday with the last sign to erect it under the protective eye of a Garda traffic monitoring camera adjacent to the Westside Shopping Center. |

I don't know if it is actually illegal under election law or simple theft of property, but this is unacceptable.
After Thursday I would like 10 posters, with the consent of their owner, to create a zero-impact compost bin. The corrugated plastic is an excellent material for composting and lasts about 4-6 years, even longer if out of direct sunlight.

Vandals target Lisbon Treaty posters
Thursday June 05 2008
Vandals destroyed a number of posters for the yes campaign for the Lisbon Treaty at the Hill's Garage roundabout in Bray last weekend. A passer-by noticed the defaced posters driving round the roundabout on Saturday afternoon. They seem to have just targeted Dick Roche's posters,' said the motorist.

They were sprayed with black paint and the middle of them was cut out. It doesn't look like it was kids, it looks like it may have been done deliberately and not just petty vandalism.'
This happened the same weekend Labour leader Eamon Gilmore, on a canvassing trip to Bray, said that anti-Treaty campaigners had taken on an increasingly strident and hysterical tone.'
members of 32 csm were handing out Vote No leaflets outside the GPO yesterday when they were given verbal dogs abuse by a member of one of the establishment parties who then tore leaflets from one activists hand and proceeded to rip them up . When informed by the activist his behaviour was unnaceptable the interloper let out a high pitched squeal and sprinted up OConnell street to the gardai and attempted to have the activists arrested for assault . I believe hes made an offical complaint .
dirty and underhand without a doubt .
Well done Sean Clinton, and thank you. Too few are brave enough, too few.
Interesting that these posters were all vandalised methodically in several cities over one night. That's quite a signature...
Late this evening I discovered that another sign had been taken down and removed - this time from a roundabout on the southern ring road around Limerick city. A search of the locality revealed where it had been discarded, together with another sign taken from the same site last week. They both now occupy two very prominent positions in Limerick city.
Last weekend I replaced another sign on the Killeens Bridge on the Mallow road a short distance out from Cork city. In order to prevent it being stolen a second time it has been chained and locked in place - but even that is no guarantee against those determined to shelter the racist Israeli state from criticism.
To my knowledge at least 16 of the 19 signs erected in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway have been stolen or destroyed on site. Four have been recovered. I think that speaks volumes for the impact which the signs have had. To judge from the actions/reactions of passing motorists the signs definitely grab attention and many people honk their approval.
Hopefully this Treaty will be severely holed below the waterline on Thursday and before any attempt to rescue it is undertaken the EU will have to rethink its relationship with the apartheid zioinst colony in Palestine.

The Israeli Embassy, Dublin.
Due respect to the serious chutzpah of erecting the sign outside the Israeli Embassy, no wonder this badge of truth and reproach, this equivalent of a red rag to the mad bull of demented Zionism was taken down, you did right, Mr Clinton, I salute your principles and your courage in effecting them.
