Are British Muslims trying to ban dogs? It's a rumour that's been swirling for years ? and it's true that in Iran hardliners occasionally moot the idea. But in this case the rumour seems to be false, says Steven Tucker.

category dublin | environment | event notice author Saturday August 09, 2008 16:11author by dunk - Dublin ECG (eco city group)author email fuspey at yahoo dot co dot uk Report this post to the editors

in connection with Dublin's Metamorphosis

2.30 meet at CHQ (previously called Stack A) in Dublins Docklands, walk along a proposed urban greenway for Dublin city, along the Royal Canal, Botanic Gardens, visit urban food production zones, mountjoy linear park, Blessington basin, city green zones, finishing in Dublin Castle 7pm.

This is an EASA event and is open to all the public, we will walk and talk, imagine what Dublin as an eco city might look like and think about strategies to turn these BOLD eco ideas into tomorrows realities...
Bring decent walking boots, raingear and food to share.

Green and Blue walk: Dublin's Metamorphosis... "Botanic Spine": Urban greenway and CPUL

The Botanic Spine is an architectural project for Dublin city in Ireland. The proposal is for an 18-kilometre ecological corridor, or greenway, for Dublin city, which is to be called the "botanic spine". The spine is a circular loop through the city that links up the river Liffey, the royal and grand canals, the botanic gardens and Europe's largest city park, the phoenix park. The spine is a "pearl necklace" type of park with the narrow line of the canal and the green space along its edges threading through a series of pocket parks, which house public buildings of interest. The Liffey will be spanned by a public walkway, alongside the rail bridge, through the soon to be developed lands around Heuston station and by an adjustable bridge spanning the river on the east side.

Irish Times:

EASA was set up in 1981 by a ginger group led by colourful Edinburgh-based architect Richard Murphy and held its first gathering in Liverpool during a bitter and prolonged docks strike. Part of the motivation behind it was to connect architecture students with the real world of conflict and social deprivation.
